Publisher's summary

It's a dirty job - but someone's got to do it.

Robert Stephenson burns zombies for a living.

It's a profession that pays the bills and plays tricks on the mind. Still, his life is routine until his four-year-old son becomes stranded in a quarantined zone, teeming with rotters.

Does Rob have what it takes to fight the undead and put his broken family back together?

Or will he also end up in the incinerator—burning with the rest of the dead?

This book was okay.

If you can get past the fact that the protagonist was annoying, this was an okay read/listen. I thought the premise of in the book of how the "Next" were handled was unique. The narrator did a good job. He portrayed the different characters well. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Intense and brutal

Dang, this one was nuts. Burn the Dead takes place in a world where the zombie apocalypse has arrived and civilization has somewhat come to terms with it. It's a horrible virus but somehow the world got a tentative handle on it, and there are protocols and procedures in place for dealing with outbreaks. There is even a shot that if taken early enough has a chanced of stopping the infection in those that get infected. Robert Stephenson is a cog in the machine. He burns the dead...well the living dead. Yeah it seems the only way to stop the creatures is to burn them. It's a horrible job, but the worst thing happens when he is getting ready to dispose of the latest batch openly discover his wife is among them! And as horrible as that is, his only thought now is what has become of his 4 year old son. His quest to find and rescue his son is insanely intense and at times quite brutal and Hannibal Hill's narration hypes the intensity up even more. I'm a huge fan of the zombie genre and love when someone introduces a unique take, which Steven Jenkins has benefiting done here.

First of Series

I have to say I enjoyed the book a little different zombie book, where Rob burns them after the cleaners catch and restrain them (I wouldn’t want to be one). In this 1st one Rob goes in search of finding and saving his son Sammie. Has good narration and cannot wait for next one and find out what happened with Rob
