Story
In my youth, I never thought I could own any property, let alone more than one. When I started my real estate business, I had no idea what to do or where to begin. I didn’t even know there were so many paths to consider. I wish I had someone guided me through the beginning stages of learning how to get into real estate. Years later, I’m happy to provide the shortcuts I wish I had known to get started. Now I’m making the income I never thought I could, and I’m now financially free to work when and how I want. The only regret I’ve ever had is wishing I had started sooner.

Story
Many Americans dream of financial freedom, but they're stuck in dead-end jobs and don't know how to get there. You don't need to be one of them. If you invested $35,000 in the stock market today, it could take 52 years for that investment to grow to $1 million. But if you invested that same amount into one single-family $140,000 rental property, it would only take 19 years. With just two rental properties, you could generate $417,000 in profit in just 10 years. Skeptical?

The “mountain men” were the hunters and trappers who fiercely strode the Rocky Mountains in the early to mid-1800s. They braved the elements in search of the skins of beavers and other wild animals, to sell or barter for goods. The lifestyle of the mountain men could be harsh, existing as they did among animals, and spending most of their days and nights living and camping out in the great unexplored wilds of the Rockies.

When Edmund Hillary first conquered Mt. Everest, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was at his side. Indeed, for as long as Westerners have been climbing the Himalaya, Sherpas have been the unsung heroes in the background. In August 2008, when eleven climbers lost their lives on K2, the world’s most dangerous peak, two Sherpas survived. They had emerged from poverty and political turmoil to become two of the most skillful mountaineers on earth. Based on unprecedented access and interviews, Buried in the Sky reveals their astonishing story for the first time.

Story
For 30 years, drummer, author, and songwriter Neil Peart had wanted to write a book about "the biggest journey of all in my restless existence: the life of a touring musician." Finally, the right time, and the right tour. In the summer of 2004, after three decades, 20 gold albums, and thousands of performances, the band Rush embarked on a 30th Anniversary World Tour. The "R30" tour traveled to nine countries, where the band performed 57 shows for more than half a million fans. Uniquely, Peart chose to do his between-show traveling by motorcycle, riding 21,000 miles of back roads.

Content is very interesting - Narration HORRIBLE
I found the information very interesting and educational. The author touches on many aspects of determining the whats, wheres, whys, whens and hows of relocating to Hawaii. My wife and I recently purchased a property (though not on the author's favorite island of Oahu) in Kailua Kona on the Big Island. It was interesting to relive some of the same issues and questions that the author experienced.
HOWEVER, most books that I "read" are via Audible (audio book) due to a long commute to and from my job. The narrator for this book REALLY needs an education on how to pronounce Hawaiian names and places. There are so many mis-pronunciations of Hawaiian place names, that I had to rewind and listen again more than once, to try to figure out where he was talking about. Kauai, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Hilo, Haleakala....the list goes on.
The author REALLY needs to go back and review this with the narrator, as this is an embarrassment to the book.
Why would you narrate a book about Hawaii and not know how to pronounce Hawaiian names???????????????????

Exactly What I Was Looking For...
Having recently read about BRRRR real estate investing in another audiobook and having obsessively watched the series Hawaii Life on HGTV, I was looking for a much more detailed resource that could merge the 2. Buying Paradise was exactly what I hoped to find.
The content was great- neither too technical (not too much cryptic real-estate jargon, etc.) nor too simple (plenty of details that elevated my understanding of owning a home in this unique place). There was even an introductory section that helped to explain what makes Hawaii special and how to overcome the perception that it is too expensive to live there.
There are 2 things that could have made it even better (the reasons I gave only 4 stars for story). First, there are lots of lists with hyperlinks that the narrator reads out loud. There are LOTS of them. It gets repetitive and tedious. It would be good to find a way to trim those down or just reference a web resource guide once where all of these can be found. Second, Oahu is great but we are interested in the other islands as well. It might be good to add chapters or a supplement to cover the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, Lanai, etc.
We're heading to the Big Island soon and expect to put what we learned from this book to good use immediately.
Note that I emailed George to thank him for writing the book and he introduced us to a Big Island realtor. George is an outstanding advocate for Hawaii and a true professional in real estate.
