About this listen

From best-selling author of Dead Meat comes a new, fast-paced, unpredictable and brutal zombie series with a fresh take on the genre.

Two teenagers find a frozen corpse in the middle of the woods and decide to bring it back to town. They have no idea they just sparked the zombie apocalypse.

In the morgue below the hospital, the dead begin waking up and attacking the living. The infection spreads rapidly, turning the place into a slaughterhouse as those inside fight to survive against the undead.

As the situation escalates, authorities are forced to seal off the building in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. But it may already be too late....

Fans of Mark Tufo, Bobby Adair, Mike Evans, and Camille Picott will devour this action-packed zombie series. And if you liked Slow Burn, Dead State, or The End of Everything, you’ll love Cadaver.

Easy listening

It's a good story with some different zombie action. I really like the narrator's style and tone.

Ignore the previous review!

Please ignore the first review. The last reviewer seems to think the book was written by a middle schooler, but if you actually read the book, you’ll realize that a lot of the characters are early twenties, in high school, or some cases, not even 13. It reads exactly the way it should. I enjoyed the book and I thought it was a great read. I really enjoyed the audible version and I think the narrator did such a great job using different voices for the characters. The book was interesting and fast paced. If you’ve ever read any zombie apocalypse books, you’ll understand that this book is right up there with all the rest. This author does an amazing job bringing the reader into the story. At every turn, I was listening to the story and thinking, “oh please make it!” That is a sign of a great author, someone who is able to engage the readers in such a way that they root for the characters. I have not started on the second book yet, but will be doing so this evening. I have read every other book series by this author and am patiently waiting for the next Breaking Sky. If you like apocalypse, end of world, zombie type books check out Under the Breaking Sky. It is a great series and I can’t wait for the next one.

Yet another zombie book

Disclaimer: I’d received a code for this book in exchange for my own personal review.

Within the last few weeks, a month at best, the author of this book asked if I’d be interested to listen to this book for free in exchange for a review. I said yes and after receiving the code for this book, which appeared in a second email after the initial one didn’t have it (I don’t blame the author as I would probably do the same), I eventually downloaded it after finishing another audiobook I’d purchased from the US Audible store. The story itself is okay but just long enough to pass the time. It was predictable in some parts but enough to not ruin the story, and one can predict whom would survive and who would die. The one part I found odd was the hole and what was in it (if you listened to the audiobook or read the book, you know what I’m referring to).

The story itself isn’t too bad and the pacing was good. The characters were relatable and plot was good. If I stumbled on this, I probably would look into it and maybe listen to the sample before making my decision on to buy or pass. However, as it was a freebie for review, I probably would look for this at my local library and borrow it from there for the follow up and save some money for something else. It’s enjoyable but not enough for me to get overly excited for it.

Loved it!

It looks like Nick Clausen has written yet another great zombie apocalypse story. I’ve read every series he has released and always look forward to new installments. Just like his others, this one pulls you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. The narration is wonderfully done, Spencer Dillehay is pleasant and easy to listen to. I can’t wait to get started on book 2 in this series!! <3 <3 <3

up to date Tom fullery.

Zombie books are my favorite. I like the plot twists and the narrator does a fantastic job of making you a part of the story.

Uniquely thought out

One of a kind descriptive storytelling. Throughout the series however, there were some parts that didn't quite add up. Like the notebook Chris had in Ragnars cave. From a previous book he mentioned to dream Helga that he had left it on his nightstand. But then he had it in the cave allowing Kil to then get it.

There were a couple other situations like that, but not once did it ever take away from the story.
I fully appreciated how karma finally caught up to Marid and Kil and kind of Lucas's dad (even though it sucked for Lucas) although I do wish Marid had gotten eaten by zombies or at least a more gruesome fate to fit her selfish behaviors that devastated a few lives, especially since poor Lucas ended up taking a life at such an early age. That boy is going to need a lot of therapy.

Ive read both Dead Meat and Cadaver so far and I 10/10 recommend them all. Cadaver has made me a fan for sure.

Awesome Book!

The way the story is told, and the plot line are great. To me it’s way a zombie outbreak would happen in real life. It’s one of those those you can’t put down without wondering what’s going to happen next.

Good take on the Zombie Apocalypse genre.

Believable story premise. Young guy doing something to stupid to impress, causes catastrophic disaster. Who doesn't know someone like that? The story is written in present tense which is hard for me to adjust to as most books I read are past tense. This style does lend itself to imparting a sense of tension and immediacy which this author uses to good effect. The narrator of the book really throws himself into the action, changing his voice as much as possible for each character and putting boatloads of emotion into each scene. Sometimes he is a bit over the top but you have to give him credit for passion and commitment. I have to admit that this author and this genre are a guilty pleasure for me. I love Nick Clausen's engagement with his readers, his sense of humor and his determination to grow the skills of his craft. I read the books first then Nick sent out codes to check out the Audible. I read quickly and I can definitely say I got caught up in the tension even though I knew what was coming. No character is safe. Some authors telegraph who will die by making them " other ", not part of the core group of survivors. I love how Mr Clausen has no respect for the "immunity" of core characters and will let you get engaged with someone and kill them in the most gruesome way possible in the next chapter! Hold on to your heartstrings!
