About this listen

From best-selling author Peter Meredith

The Apocalypse Crusade - The First Three Days

The world is suddenly thrown into chaos as a research project is sabotaged and the dead come alive to feast on the living - it seems like an old story, doesn’t it? Or perhaps you’ve heard this one: cities worldwide are overrun by a plague of man-eating monsters that seem to come out of nowhere while small bands of heroes fight for their lives!

Yes, we’ve all listened to that book.

The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.

This book puts you in the thick of the action. You are the stockbroker who throws a brick through a convenience store window and surges in with the crowd to loot what he can before it’s too late and the food runs out. And you are the 30-year-old housewife who picks up that same brick an hour later and uses it to crack open the skull of a stranger because she has two children to feed. His arms are full and hers are empty - survival is just that simple sometimes.

You are the ill-prepared family man who foolishly believes the authorities when they say the situation is contained. The line at the gas station is three miles long, wrapping around block after block and so, in a state of denial you go home and play a game of monopoly with the wife and kids as the horde of undead grows and grows all around you.

And you are the soldier on the line, sweating beneath your helmet and vest. At 10 that morning you were a cocky thing. You were going to kick ass - but that was then. Now, 12 hours later, you’ve retreated four times and you are counting your bullets and eyeing the gas mask sitting on the log next to you.

You hate the thing. You can’t see worth a damn when it’s on and you sure as hell can’t shoot straight. But to leave it off could mean becoming infected. On the other hand, you know that if you miss just one time you could be eaten alive, screaming and screaming. It happened to Davis and his cries still ring in your ears.

The mask stays on the log and the headache you’ve had for the last hour really starts to thump and your mouth tastes like ass and your vision is blurry....

A very well told account of a zombie outbreak from the POV of the scientists who started it and the patients who turn in the monsters. Lots of characters you’ll love and hate and lots and lots of detailed gore! A must read!

What a splendid nightmare!

I found the first book the best, and considering this is books 1-3 of a 5 part series im not sure how i feel about that. I think that alot of the characters were pretty interesting, and the zombie virus/outbreak was cool to see from the beginning and its source point. My major complaint story wise is just how it felt at times none of the characters were really acting like they had done all the things they had done and seen the things they had seen. Usually, things can only happen because characters behave really poorly and stupidly in zombie books. However in this one, it almost goes too far. Until the end, the characters act and feel a little numb/too rational at points.

That said, the books were very well done and the narrator hit all the spots she needed to. There were just some characters voices which when compared to others were pretty weak.

Overall pretty good.

This is a good zombie apocalypse story with a medical research start that goes into a government /military way. Worth the credit.

This book is one of the best Zombie apocalypse stories EVER written. Although I've read quite a few, this one and maybe one or two others have gone in such great detail about the start and origins of the virus. with a cast of memorable characters this book delves not only into the actual origins of how this virus starts, but the actual thought process of the characters who are infected from the first signs until total virus control. This story keeps you on the very edge of your seat, and guessing at every turn. THIS BOOK SERIES MUST BE TRANSFORMED INTO A MOVIE SERIES !!!

INCREDIBLE!

I love books that start out gradually and tell the story of an outbreak from the start and how it spreads. So refreshing that it's not a book where someone just looks outside and its, "ahhhhh zombies!" and little to no explanation is give to the phenomenon. The author does a good job developing each character and you really feel like you know them as a person.

A good slow burn

Makes you literally laugh out loud at the hilarious dialogue and smart ass narration! The action makes you want to pound your chest in primal fury. The descriptions of the disgusting undead make you wince. Seriously better than TWD.

LOVE IT

I like the series pretty good just got through the first book The only thing I don't understand is why these zombies have superhuman strength in the Zombie Road Series the zombie virus was made from a super soldier serum there is no explanation for the Superhuman strength of the zombies in this series. Also despite the fact that throughout the whole first book the characters are calling them zombies nobody shoot them in the head until the very end that's about my only complaints

pretty good

I love listening to audio books at work. You know a book is good when you constantly have to rewind to try and get all of it. some coworker or a customer talks to you and boom it's pause (if able) and rewind. Seriously, if zombie books are your thing and you don't like weird twists to the genre, READ THIS BOOK.

Smoking crack is less addictive than this book
