About this listen
An undead super soldier possessed by the devil aims to destroy the world in this thriller from the international best-selling author of Dark Visions.
He was their deadliest killer
The late Roth Tiberius Cain, legendary CIA hit man, is gone, but not forgotten. A top-secret project code-named Genocide One has given him a chance to live again and enough firepower to kill multitudes - and survive to kill another day.
Now he is their greatest nightmare
Grotesquely transformed, Cain has become the ultimate predator: a killing machine with the soul of a devil. And the only force that can stop him is a trio of flawed people: a soldier who lost his family and his soul to a terrorist’s bullets, a priest who has lost his faith to the power of sin, and the beautiful scientist who created Cain and then lost control of him. Now, in a 10-day countdown to Armageddon, all they have left to lose is the survival of the human race.
A Book of the Month Club Main Selection
Praise for Cain:
“An action-packed novel filled with combat, big explosions, chases, and suspenseful confrontations.” (SF Site)

On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors. Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

A journey into the deepest, darkest jungles of the Venezuelan Amazon...and a primeval place and time that mankind was never meant to exist in. Ben Cartwright, former soldier, home to mourn the loss of his father, stumbles upon cryptic letters from the past between author Arthur Conan Doyle and his great-great-grandfather who vanished while exploring the Amazon jungle in 1908. Amazingly, these letters lead Ben to believe that his ancestor’s expedition was the basis for Doyle’s fantastical tale of a lost world inhabited by long-extinct creatures.

But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

My name is Nate Temple, and I’m secretly a wizard. I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, I drink with Achilles, and I’m pals with the Four Horsemen. I’ve even cow-tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules...I’m just not very good at the application. Because rules were meant to be broken, and St. Louis has a bit of a supernatural infestation these days. Someone should probably be keeping an eye on these things -and probably an eye on me, too. Before I blow up another building...or three.

Excellent story, but hard to listen to
Something about the narrator was just horribly difficult to listen to. He was almost to the point of being irritating. It was work trying to figure out when he changed characters. if I could give a 0 for the performance of the narrator I would. I will never listen to another book narrated by Tom Lennon.
Now on to the store. Great story, I enjoyed the book. The author has a tendency to use 3,000 words to do what 300 could have. All in all a great story. I suggest reading the actual book, instead of listening to the audiobook.

action thriller
For me, this seemed to drag on and on, with one conflict after another to neutralize and eradicate Cain and save Amy. I lost interest after several hours. Good versus evil. I did enjoy the ending. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

A Little Long, But Worth It
As another reviewer stated, I also read this book a few years back and listening gives you another perspective of the story...The characters are very realistic, and a couple of them are quite evil !You can’t help but keep turning the pages. Yes it was a little long but worth investing the time...I have listened to a few of Tom Lennon's books that he has narrated, and IMO he is a talented narrator, and this book is no exception. I received this in an audiobook give away, and I am giving my voluntary unbiased review.

So disappointed!
I read this book years ago and liked it very much. Have been looking for it on Audible for a good while so when I saw it finally available I was very happy. Immediately used a credit to download. Very quickly I realized that it would be a struggle to get through. The narrator is probably the worst overall I’ve heard. Hard to even describe the irritation in listening to this guy. Terrible at trying to do different characters, Never seems to pause or indicate a change in character or chapter. One just runs into the next most of the time. Little or no emotion and everything he says sounds the same. He almost totally ruined the book for me. Will not listen to anything else from this narrator.
