About this listen
A demon hunter without a home. A cop without a cause. A seemingly unstoppable evil rising in a small town...
WARNING: Contains violence, coarse language and sexual situations.
Archibald "Arch" Stan was a local cop in Midian, Tennessee that was good at his job, good at being a husband, and exceptionally good at hiding his disappointment at not being able to figure out what was missing in his life that made it all seem so empty.Lafayette Hendricks looked like a drifter, a broken-down hitchhiker blown through Midian on the prevailing winds. When Arch catches him in a fight on the town square, though, things start to get weird, fast, because the guy he's fighting doesn't die when he gets shot. And Hendricks is carrying a sword. Pretty soon, Arch's whole life is turned upside down by Hendricks's revelation that there's a secret world operating under the one he's been living in his whole life - one filled with demons, chaos, and unspeakable evils, one of which is already in town, stirring trouble. And if the two men don't band together to keep watch on the darkness falling on Midian, then this small town might just get swallowed up by the forces of evil - with the rest of the world to follow shortly behind. If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Stephen King, Michael Anderle, Shayne Silvers, Shannon Mayer, or J.R. Rain, you will LOVE the first installment of the Southern Watch series.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Separated by distance and choices, Archibald "Arch" Stan and Lafayette Hendricks find themselves far apart when the message comes through: the world is ending in three days, and Hell is coming. The apocalypse will begin in Midian, Tennessee, a small town where once upon a time, nothing happened. Now...everything is happening. The fate of the world will turn on whether Midian survives the next three days. It will all come down to Arch, the Watch, and, perhaps, Hendricks... ...If he can find his way back in time.

The robot voice was a huge distraction.
Okay story but the robot voice was terrible. It was flat and continuous and made it hard to follow the story.

computer natation fail
The first chapter of this book is an introduction to 3 different characters. While I enjoyed the book itself, computer narration just ran all the paragraphs together so you couldn't tell you had switched to a different character. It just made things very confusing. There was also no fluctuation in accent when the book specified heavy accents, and the colorful colloquialisms used didn't sound right with the flat narration. The narration lacked the emotional fluctuation that draws a person into the story.

Virtual Voice Naration was Excellent
This story is really scary in the beginning. But it was very interesting and held my attention. I honestly credit virtual voice for that. The reading was so smooth & soothing to my ears that, although it was creepy or scary, it also relaxed me mentally.

Greatest author there is.
Just like all his other titles, Crane tells an amazing story that draws you in and holds you tight through the entire story.

Good book bad narrator
The book is one of my favourite starts to a series with show me world building and less dialogue to hear what things are. However the AI narrator is horrible, wrong inflections and weird word pronunciation. would love to hear an actual narrator read.

Nope
No more virtual voice. Just hire an actual person to read the book. I can’t count the number of times I had to rewind and listen to parts again to figure out when a scene had changed, or to figure out what character was speaking, etc, etc.

Stick with it.
Vertical Voice was better than some readers, but a person reading would be a great improvement.

great book love the story but AI reading needs work
I wish the AI would pause more between character switches as I'm sure the book skips a few lines or has a visual separation of thoughts. But, the book was great and I'm definitely going to listen to the whole series.

Great storyline Bad virtual voice
I really enjoyed the story but the virtual voice is not good. I would love to listen to the other books in the series but won't.
