Critic reviews

"January LaVoy's expert narration engages listeners.... She finds outstanding, distinctive voices for the various charismatic characters - from writers to academics to FBI agents. The sardonic edge to the dialogue includes all those involved in the book business, and LaVoy appears to enjoy their parties and conversations." ( AudioFile)

A clever story with almost believable characters, and an ending that choir me was unexpected. The narrative flies well, and since one of the principal characters was a woman the voice of a woman to read worked fine - of course to be honest the story is strong enough that the narration never calls attention to itself.
No apparent political or philosophical agendas to the story.

Not Grisham's finest work. He is certainly capable of far better, both from story and character standpoint.

I enjoyed the characters, setting and adventure and recommend the book to others. Living in the Southeast myself made the story even more realistic.

Great "read" for our road trip. The performance was particularly engaging and gave life to the story and characters.

Loved the performance as well as the book.

More light hearted than most Grisham novels. It is a great one to take to the beach and relax with. Decent storytelling and some colorful characters.

A good summer read.

Any additional comments?

I've always been a Grisham fan, and this book did not disappoint. Don't pick this up expecting any kind of riveting legal drama. Nor is this book as solidly written as Painted House. However, Grisham still builds characters that are interesting with their own unique flaws. He still moves the story along at a good pace. And he still knows how to tell a story.

Fun "Light" Read

I know Grisham is a book machine but I have to say that even though his stories are well written, they are becoming too thin. This will be my last Grisham book for a while....... no imagination.

Stupid ending

I really enjoyed the story and just as it was getting interesting it just kind of ended.

Strong story weak ending
