Number-one New York Times best-selling author Harlan Coben set huge sales records with last year’s Six Years - and he’s poised to do it again in his next breathtaking stand-alone thriller. Harlan Coben, author of six consecutive instant number-one New York Times best sellers and a total of 24 award-winning, best-selling, and internationally acclaimed novels, returns with another ripped-from-real-life thriller full of impossibly high emotional stakes and the real-to-life characters for which he has become famous.

Editorial reviews

Editors Select, March 2014 - While not my go-to genre, every now and then I like to sit back and take in a good mystery/thriller. So, when I saw that Harlan Coben was coming out with a new stand-alone novel, I felt it was the perfect time to try out something new from an author I knew well by reputation (through countless rave reviews from Audible members) but never read or listened to personally. Missing Youwas exactly what I was hoping for: a cleverly conceived, suspenseful thrill-ride with cops and bad guys. There's a taken-from-the-headlines sense to the story where 40-year-old NYPD detective, Kat Donovan, discovers an old love and stumbles upon a possible gateway into a mysterious crime world through an online dating site her friend signs her up for. If you are looking for some smart entertainment and the kind of book you just can't put down, I can highly recommend Missing You. For anyone who is already a Coben fan, Missing You offers something new in a strong female protagonist, and a strong female narrator in January LaVoy to boot! Tricia, Audible Editor

Coben never disappoints

Any additional comments?

Most of the audible books I buy I end up rating a 4 or a 5. After listening to this book, I realize I should save my ratings of 5 for a book like this. Harlan Coben is great, although after a while Myron Bolitar can get boring. I have enjoyed many Bolitar books, but there has never been a non-Bolitar book that I would not rate a 5 or above.
The narrator for Missing You was excellent even though I usually prefer male narrators, especially Scott Brick.
Highly recommend this novel!

Excellent narrator. Period. Full Stop.

Coben’s gleefully explicit descriptions of gratuitous torture and brutality are repugnant and add Nothing of value to the plot or character development in this novel. Coben has demonstrated in prior work that his written expression skill set is adequate to creating stories which do not need to depend on such cheap literary tricks. Excellent narrator, but Very disappointed in this effort on the part of Myron Coben who should know better.

Harlan Coben does it again!!

I never fail to enjoy the books written by Harlan Coben and this was no different. The different stories within the stories kept me hooked from the very beginning. The characters were very well thought out. Love how they were all intertwined! January LaVoy did an excellent job at the narration. She has an easy voice to listen to and her character voices, as well as the narration, were spot on. Never got bored with monotony. Definitely recommend!!

Amateurish and disappointing

This is the first time I've listened to a Harlan Coben story that was outside his normal Bolitar series and it is debatable that i will give him "another chance." His light-weight, simplistic narration style does not lend itself to this intentionally convoluted tale. Our main character is a disfunctional woman officer who is stuck in a 20 year old past. Suddenly "things" happen so she can unravel and resolve issues ... it is all very amateurish. At one point when people's lives are at stake and she is hot on a trail of kidnappers, she pulls off to make a personal side-trip, abandoning all that is urgent to "take care" of something that can clearly wait. Even the ending, which was supposed to leave us "wondering" instead gave me the feeling that the author just didn't know how to write a decent ending so he dropped it.

I wanted to like the characters .... uh, not so much. A few smatterings of humanity here and there, but overall they are forgettable.

Still Missing

Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or January LaVoy?

I LOVE Harlan Coben BUT if this book had been my first - I would have NEVER tried another

Any additional comments?

This book has a VERY boring beginning, in fact I was a few chapters in still trying to figure out what I had purchased and was going to return it when it got interesting.
Decent ending which helped make up for the horrid beginning......

not Harlan's best work

Any additional comments?

I'm a long time fan of Harlan Coben. He's is one of my favorite authors, but...this was not his best work. Some interesting character development but unnecessarily violent and graphic. The story line was a stretch, often in a weird way and unbelievable way.

A great read, a bit too much cliches

The story was interesting and kept me guessing.
the mystery is great.
Narrator was great for the female characters but male voices sounded like they are being mocked.

Super narrator....Good story

I purchased this mostly because I like the narrator. The story was good overall with a little bit of predictability. I think the narrator brought this book to life. I would read/ listen to this author again too.

Liked it but creepy!!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this - Harlan Coben is one of my favorite authors! I only gave it 4 stars because there were a few times that I had to pull the ear buds out of my ears because it was so disturbing.
