About this listen
Mr. Shaitana is famous as a flamboyant party host. Nevertheless, he is a man of whom everybody is a little afraid. So when he boasts to Hercule Poirot that he considers murder an art form, the detective has some reservations about accepting a party invitation to view Shaitana's "private collection".
Indeed, what begins as an absorbing evening of bridge is to turn into a more dangerous game altogether.

Story
A blinding snowstorm - and a homicidal maniac - traps a small party of friends in an isolated estate. Out of this deceptively simple setup, Agatha Christie fashioned one of her most ingenious puzzlers, which in turn would provide the basis for The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in history. From this classic title novella to the deliciously clever gems on its tail (solved to perfection by Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple), this rare collection of murder most foul showcases Christie at her inventive best.

Implausible Plot, Fun Twists and Turns, Stellar Narration
Hugh Fraser does his usual excellent narration with the perfect Poirot, somehow completely believable women’s voices, and everyone else in this completely implausible yet fun mystery. My one regret is that there isn’t more Ariadne Oliver, the shambling apple-chomping mystery writer who makes her first appearance here. But a delightful use of an Audible credit — painted an entire room of my house while Poirot and amis kept me company.

Great Story, Glitches Throughout
I really enjoy when Hugh Fraser narrates these stories! He always does a great job! Just in terms of information-there were glitches throughout the story, kind of like "skips" in the narrative. If those can be fixed, the narration will run smoothly. :)

Best so far
Best Agatha Christie mystery we have listened to so far, out of a dozen or so. Hugh Fraser is the best narrator as well. The appearance of the Ariadne Oliver character, so obviously a caricature of Ms. Christie herself, is a brilliant touch.

Great detective work- perhaps a bit contrived at the very in. But Christie writes a great book and if you go with the time, it’s also very entertaining. Very good narration.

A Christie worth re-reading
Like many mystery readers, I went through a heavy “Golden Age of mysteries” phase earlier in life. Christie was an inspiring novelist- a female author, outselling her male compatriots and creating several memorable detectives - but with no new stories and very little “Christie pastiche” work out there due to her firm control of copyright, I haven’t read any for years.
These new audiobook versions are a treat to listen to. I burned through “Cards” while weeding extensively over a few days and was pleasantly surprised at the balance of male/female detection. Great plot twists as well!
