About this listen

In Las Vegas, secrets are deadly.

Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are members of the elite Las Vegas Metro PD, one of the toughest and most respected law enforcement agencies in the United States. In the middle of a city with two million residents and 43 million annual visitors, they’re hunting for a killer.

The girl

When a beautiful, young girl is killed in the high-roller Pleasure Pit of the exclusive Scala Casino, the news reverberates for hours among the ritzy clientele. Before taking the stage where she found her death, Crystal was last seen boarding an unmarked helicopter for a late-night flight to an unknown destination.

The money

The stakes are high at the roulette table, and the players are hot-blooded. Among them, a stone cold killer watches, waits, and kills without leaving a single trace of evidence. Rien ne va plus but death.

The game

The name of the game is murder, and it doesn’t stop with Crystal’s demise. Anyone who threatens to expose the killer’s identity will soon find they’re being targeted.

In Las Vegas, secrets can kill.

Two mavericks make an intriguing team. Baxter and Holt trust each other with their lives, only not with their darkest secrets.

Fans of James Patterson, David Baldacci, Lee Child, and Robert Dugoni will be engrossed in this riveting, entertaining police procedural that will keep you listening well into the early morning hours.

interesting plot and excellent narration

This is the first book I've listened to by Leslie Wolfe and it definitely makes me want to hear more of her stories. The descriptions are interesting without overdoing it and the narrator does an excellent job of transporting you into the story.

Right from the beginning the author captured my interest and the action and twists kept me intrigued. Highly recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of the Sue Grafton books (like I am),

Interesting whodunit murder mystery

I liked the mystery of this book. A dancer gets murdered and it takes a while to find out HOW she died and once we know that, we try to figure out WHO killed her and why. On the case are a couple people who are very good at reading people. I found this a fascinating aspect of this book. Overall, I found it worth listening to. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

producer error

this is the first time I blame a producer for doing voices wrong

the reader makes mistakes with the British accent at the wrong time

but this is a production error. the producer should have had the reader speak the heroines thoughts also with a British accent otherwise the narration was excellent and the plot is excellent I hope the next book fixes the narration error

Really good!

I enjoyed this listen so much that I hesitate not giving it five stars across the board. So why did I? The main female character was British and many, many, many times that was not the case in the narration.

Okay, on to the good stuff...

I loved this story! It was such a great story with wonderful characters and an incredibly difficult to discover murderer. That's whodunnit gold, that is. There were also several very good story lines playing out against the backdrop of the "casino girl" murder.

My only issue with the story was the narration. The narrator was really good but when the main character is a native Brit, that needs to be a constant.

Great Read

Casino Girl (Baxter and Holt #2) was a good read by Leslie Wolfe. A young girl is killed in the high-roller Pleasure Pit of a casino. Crystal was last seen boarding an unmarked helicopter for a flight to an unknown destination. Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt investigate the death and find themselves growing closer while learning more about each other. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

A gripping mystery

I wish I'd been able to review book 1 of this series before reviewing this one. I think there's some background of the main protagonists that I missed. But this is a very gripping mystery, and other than the obnoxious and unrealistic sexual tension between them, Baxter and Holt are compelling characters.

Gwendolyn Druyor expertly narrates this audiobook, voicing characters distinctly and appropriately without being overly melodramatic.

I hope to have the opportunity to review more books of this series in the future.

Intriguing Mystery

Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are partners in the LVMPD and they are assigned to investigate the death of Las Vegas exotic dancer, Crystal Tillman. When Crystal died onstage in the High Roller room in the ritzy Scala Casino, with no apparent cause the question is what would cause a healthy eighteen-year-old to drop dead in the middle of her dance routine?

The story is told from the perspective of Laura who in addition to solving this crime has to deal with the Department of Internal Affairs who want her to frame her partner, Holt, for something she feels sure he did not do or she herself will be out of a job. Added to that she has feelings for Holt, could things be any more complicated?

The storyline is complicated involving murder, mystery, and intrigue! The plot has been really well thought out involving several good subplots which added to my enjoyment of this book. There are so many suspects to choose from, her room-mate who also dances at the Scala, her lover, her lover's wife or any of the billionaires who were in the casino that night. Or was it the man who argued with her just before she died?

This mystery thriller flows well and is fast-paced and from the beginning to the very end it held my attention. As Laura and Holt investigate their working relationship is under added pressure because Holt feels Laura is hiding something from him, but what? Because of an incident involving the Medical Examiner, it did take a while to identify Crystal's Cause Of Death which helped to build the suspense. There were many twists, turns and surprises in this story and I personally did not guess who the murderer was.

How Laura dealt with the problem of Internal Affairs was also very well done and I hope this means that we will be able to have more stories involving her and Holt.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Intense plot

CASINO GIRL by Leslie Wolfe
Crystal see’s herself belonging to the world of glitter amd gold as an exotic dancer. Life would change with the growing baby bump for her. She grabbed the pole, defeated, and became limp, and was gone. Farley’s worst nightmare had begun. A killer was among them. Laura had a partner Jack and he was open about his secrets but she wasn’t. This caused friction between them but their lives depended on them trusting one another especially now with this case. With the death of Crystal why did they wait four hours to call 911. Plot was intense, your heart goes out for Crystal who was eighteen and a third year college student. A married boyfriend, but he loved her. This is a must read. It captures you and has a surprising ending where Jack finally gets Laura to open up. Given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
