Publisher's summary

Kaylin returned from the West March in one piece. Now that piece is fraying. She's not at home in the Imperial Palace - and she never intends to be. All she wants is normal garden-variety criminals and a place of her own. Of course, normal in her new life involves a dragon as a roommate, but she can handle that. Kaylin can't as easily handle the new residents to the city she polices, because one of them is Nightshade's younger brother. On a night when she should be talking to landlords in perfectly normal buildings, she's called to the fief - by Teela. A small family disagreement has become a large, complicated problem: Castle Nightshade's latent magic is waking. And it's not the only thing.

Critic reviews

"The concept of home plays a big role in Sagara's newest Chronicles of Elantra installment. Being a fish out of water is the other theme explored, since a number of new secondary characters are from out of time. Sagara brilliantly weaves these threads together, developing emotional resonance that intermingles with the unfolding danger." ---RT Book Reviews

Cast in Flame

Thank you for a great series & leaving it open to maybe continuing the series. Enjoyed listening to all 10 books. The story was very believable with the descriptions given to the lands & all types of different species coexisting.

Complex and Delightful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely - this is one of my absolute favourites out of the series

What did you like best about this story?

Dragons and Teela - what more could you want!

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Love this narrator and have hunted down her other works - this one doesn't disappoint!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is a lot of world shifting, new ideas and house-hunting. I particularly enjoyed meeting the new house for Kaylin

Time for forward

The main character in this series seem to be stuck dealing with the same issues. It time for the girl to get over it and start dati g.

This is book 10-

This is book ten - if you liked the previous 9 books this will be just as enjoyable. If not then start with Cast in Shadow. There are a few inconsistent with the previous books but they are very minor. I really love how this series is able to continue to expand without need to "develop" new rules or myths to keep the books good.

Audible please ask Michelle to add to this series to more international locations.

big improvement.

Back in elantra, and surrounded by the characters we have begun to love. More plot action and less lengthy emotional internal conversations.

long winded introspection

I love the series, however this book had much more self-reflection then any of the other books so far.

The series continues slowly....

I am a huge fan of Michelle Sagara and the Chronicles of Elantra, I understand the progression of the story, but I am on pins and needles waiting to find out what Kaylin's REAL purpose, she has saved cities and avatars, and even Two dragons. She has two possibilities for a love interest but because she's not immortal everyone except Severn treat her as is she is a child. I am going to stick with the series but hope for more in the next one.

Cast in Flame

I really enjoy the writing style of Michelle Sagara and this series is very good. I just finished book 10 - Cast in Flame - the newest release of the series, and find myself wanting another book. Michelle Sagara I hope you continue to write more in this series! The narrator, as always, is very good.
