A werewolf killer. A paranormal murder. How many times can Emma Bellamy cheat death?

I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next.

Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

Werewolves are disappearing right, left, and centre.

A mysterious vampire seems intent on following me everywhere I go.

And I have to solve my own vicious killing. Preferably before death comes for me again.

the combination of this author and narrator is magic. I first discovered these ladies with the audio book "Wraith." I loved it immediately.
this book takes supernatural to another level, one filled with interesting characters and a riveting story line. I enjoy supernatural and fantasy but many books contain war and excessive violence. I will look for a second, hopefully, in this series. thank you, Helen Harper and Ruth Urquhart for a wonderful creation.

SUPer good writing as always

I enjoyed this book a lot. While being a supernatural book, there wasn’t a lot of what normally goes along with them like vamps biting, wolves shifting, mates and what not. Surprise twist at the end was also pretty fun!

I enjoyed it a lot

It’s not bad but can get long winded at times. I will continue the series though

I didn't know what to expect but I really enjoyed the characters, the mystery and the magic of these different creatures intermingling with each other in this fantasy world. Loved it all!

A uniquely fresh delight!

Our brash heroine (Code name D’Artagnon) is only a few weeks from graduating from Dective School. She wanted her last rotation to be cybercrime, but was instead assigned to Supes, AKA supernaturals. She is to work under the supervision of a detective, but hers was murdered that night. Incidentally, so was she. Follow her as she tries to solve her and the detective’s murders. And by the way, she came back to life 12 hours after her murder.

Really amusing!

While not a new idea, the author did an excellent job building a world and developing the characters in ways that worked well.

And the narrator did a wonderful job switching voices and keeping me engaged.

Great start to a series

Ms Harper is a new to me author and I’m so glad I found this series. This was a fun romp through an alternate London among werewolves and vampires. Part of the Audible Plus catalog.

Helen Harper's writing chops just keep getting better! This storyline is surprisingly excellent. I'm so pleased with Harper's approach, kind of sideways into a shifter/vamp story, without making the shifting/vampness the point; the overlaying storyline is the point, with the shifter/vampness just a normal every day part of the world. The female main character definitely "reads" as a mid/late 20's person striving to achieve respect as a newbie in her field. The end has a massive shift of perception that is beautifully done, and there is a satisfying ending. All in all, this became a fav book for me, which is a very rare thing. So, on to the next book. I highly recommend you read this one if you like vamp/shifter/human worlds, and if you like women succeeding in generally male-dominated professions.

Surprisingly excellent
