About this listen

The number-one New York Times best-selling author of Leopard's Prey returns to the feral underworld of her astonishing Leopard novels in an arousing new romance of forbidden animal instincts....

Cat Benoit has finally escaped the past - and the man who was the source of her nightmares. She's off the grid, underground but watchful, and creating a new life for herself in Texas, far from the torrid dangers of her native New Orleans. She's safe. He'll never find her this time. Cat has to believe that. It's the only thing keeping her sane.

Yet she can't escape the attention of Ridley Cromer, the instructor at the martial arts dojo where Cat takes lessons. She arouses the animal in Ridley - and something feral comes to life when their body heat rises. Cat is in no position to let her guard down with anyone, especially someone who could be endangered by her past. But Ridley has secrets of his own - secrets only Cat would understand. If she dares to trust him.

Fifty shades again!

This was a bit of a departure from the rest of the series. As a woman I don't appreciate making the woman a victim of male dominance. The book was well written though.

More Misogynistic than I like

I read all of Ms. Feehan’s books multiple times. I love her writing style. This specific book however, disturbs me with the demanding, brutish way the hero introduces the virgin heroine to sex. I understand that the woman loves him and wants him to dominate her in the bed. but I do not approve of the way his introduction involves grabbing of hair & demanding oral sex and deep throat sex. And his threatening behavior when Cat had the bad idea of sitting on the porch. Otherwise I really liked the book

This Cat has 9 lives

What made the experience of listening to Cat's Lair the most enjoyable?

The Narrator was great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cat. She showed that we internalize and re-affirm what we are told when as children. She had the strength of character and mental fortitude to out smart Rafe.

Which scene was your favorite?

Cat being flattened by the library, laptop & boots

Repetitive, Predictable, and Dramatic

I LOVE Christine Feehan. She is, or maybe was, one of my favorite authors. However, her books are becoming more and more predictable. Not just in the Leopard series but the Carpathians as well. I've listened to these books numerous times because I love the plots. Don't get me wrong, I love the steamy parts as well but that's all her books are anymore! You get 5mins of plot and an hour of sex. It is annoying. I want more excitement (non sexual) and more of the story behind what is happening. I find myself rolling my eyes the majority of the time and skipping ahead to avoid the sex because it is ALWAYS the same! In every single book. With each book, I am getting more and more annoyed. From book 1 being full of excitement and fighting to this book where it is nothing but sex (I do NOT recommend listening to book 0.5. It is truly awful! Had I listened to that book before book 1, I would have NEVER given the series a shot). So freaking annoying! I have started this series over and over again but am yet to get even half way through it because it is just HARD to listen to them. Most of the time, I quit halfway through a book because UGH!

As far as the narrator, I do like her and I don't like ANY female narrators. They are usually truly awful with male voices. She isn't bad at all. However, she is SO. dang. dramatic!!! But usually ONLY in the sex scenes and it make me grit my teeth. Literally!! I have started to lose faith in Feehan. She has lost her edge.

Emphasis was on Sex instead of Plot.

Would you try another book from Christine Feehan and/or Karen White?

I have read every book in the Leopard series. Cat's Lair was the worst. At least 70% of the novel was entirely sex scenes. When I "read" a book with too much sexual contact, I can skip forward a few pages to get back to the plot. In an audiobook, I can't tell when they will get back to the story. Therefore I had to keep listening for hours through sex scene after sex scene. It was very boring and the narrative was monotonous. I was very disappointed with the book. This book had the potential to be very action-packed and suspenseful, but it failed miserably.

Has Cat's Lair turned you off from other books in this genre?

I will probably try Ms. Feehan's next book in the series, but if she doesn't go back to the suspenseful narrative of former books, it will be the last time. When I want to read pornography, I will buy a book advertised as such at a much lower cost. I love shape-shifter books and will continue purchasing them by other authors. I buy romantic suspense books, not books where the most frequently used word is "F***".

Which scene was your favorite?

The best scene in the book was when the heroine finally confronted the evil shifter and had to be saved by the hero and characters introduced in previous books in the series.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Emphasis on the shape-shifting of the main characters, the development of the relationships between all of the shape-shifters, the steps taken to defeat the evil villain, the heroine 's pregnancy. The development of the sexual relationship between the hero and heroine should be limited to no more than 20% of the book.

Any additional comments?

Christine Feehan is a great author who writes three different series. I have been purchasing two complete series over many years, and have only recently been disappointed in the latest few leopard books. I hope that she goes back to her previous style of writing. I believe the Editor of this series is pushing the author in the wrong direction.

She does it again!

Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors hands down. I love pretty much everything she writes, Cat's Lair included.

Steamy sex scenes, martial arts, a strong female character- it works and it's fantastic. Give it a listen and see for yourself why I love her books so much.

But beware- NSFW(not safe for work)- or children. Those sex scenes are explicit. For all those romance novel lovers- eat your hearts out on this fantastic read!

Cat's Lair

Well I have to say that there is no difference between Rafe Cordeau and Eli Perez. he is more controlling as the first man in her life. Although he love her that is not enough for her to trust him. If he doesn't he will loss her in the end . I don't understand how the heroine was modeling into what man wants. He a is not give freedom and room to allow her grow. I also expects more from the hero to be more of better man than he showed her.
