About this listen

Recently out of rehab, Sasha James is determined to keep her head down, complete her parole, and never touch amber again. The chip in her neck controls her cravings for the highly addictive drug, but also tracks her every move. Not that she goes anywhere other than work and the halfway house she calls home - a far cry from her luxurious former life as lover of the mining colony's top drug dealer, Guy Christiansen.

Agent Nathan Sterling has no desire to see Sasha fall back into amber, but his sister has become Guy's latest conquest and the unexpectedly attractive Sasha is the key to getting her back. So in exchange for an introduction, he offers Sasha the one thing she can't refuse - her freedom. From the chip, her parole and even the planet if she wants. Though he would be sorry to see her go....

Torn between her growing attraction to Nathan, fear of Guy and the allure of amber, Sasha accepts. But who will save her if Guy refuses to let her go a second time?

Cool world, cool heroine.

Where does Caught in Amber rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Somewhere in the middle. I liked it, but am not passionate about it. Good book though.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Caught in Amber?

Oh there is a steamy steamy love scene. Hot stuff!

Which scene was your favorite?

See above please.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yeah, it flowed well and certainly wasn't boring. I listened to it quite quickly.

Any additional comments?

I think the author did a great job of setting up the world Sasha lives in. It is similar to earth, but with some cool differences. The characters are well developed and the heroine is a cool girl who is to be admired. I will say I'm over the "I'm going to use you to get what I need and in exchange you'll get this, but wait, I'm falling in love with you so that's complicating everything" plot. But the villain of the book wasn't always so bad, so that was interesting. I kind of liked him more that the leading man. I wanted to save the bad guy. You know, "all he needs to straighten up is the love of a good woman" thing. It's a great book. I really like Rachel Anslover too. She's got sass in her voice and plays the tough leading lady well.

Not as good as her first audio book but not bad

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it to a sci-fi/romance reader, It is not really hard science Fiction though still sci-fi and it a fun romance novel in a way if you like lots of action and little romance in your romance novels. It does have a fun plot with star-crossed lovers, A cop who's sister is under the thumb of the Amber King dealer, Amber being the most additive drug in the universe; and a convict on parlor who he talks into going back to the King to get his sister out. She has finally kicked Amber and really doesn't want to go back in but she does for this guy.

What did you like best about this story?

I like how the lead struggled with her addiction thinking all-the-while her chip was holding her back when at the end she finds out the chip had stopped functioning a long time a go and it was only her will power that held her back.

What about Rachel Anslover’s performance did you like?

She voiced the story well, and brought it to life, I gave the story 4 stars only because the plot lacked that little extra to give the kick to 5 stars, but her voice work was 5 stars work.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she is finally getting her chip out at the end, I thought that was neat.

Any additional comments?

Pegue can write good science fiction /romance/action Her other story Deep Deception is a lot better and flowed a lot better. I don't if it was because she wrote a lesbian couple in Deep and a straight couple in Amber, but she just didn't build up much of a relationship between the cop and con, so it wasn't as believable. You never see them bond.
