About this listen

2015 Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year Award

2015 Inspirational Reader's Choice Award Finalist

From a vineyard in the south of France to the sophisticated city of Paris, Ella Moreau searches for the hope and love she lost as a young girl when her mother abandoned the family. Ella's journey is portrayed through a heartbroken child, a young woman's struggles during the tumultuous times surrounding World War II, and as a reflective adult.

Through a series of secret paintings, her art becomes the substitute for lost love - the metaphor of her life. But when her paintings are discovered, the intentions of those she loves are revealed.

Touching story of love and forgiveness

Wonderful experience and hard to stop reading. Some of the pronunciations are jarringly incorrect, but otherwise nice performance.

Painting a Picture . . . of Love

Human . . . and flawed . . . are we all . . . even set against the backdrop of French vineyards bathed in warmth and sunshine . . . an inner demon gnaws at us sometimes, a need to be free of one's tethers . . . and so Marie, a woman who seemed to have it all . . . three beautiful children and a husband who loved her, just up and left one day . . . in a day and age, when that just wasn't done, leaving Ella Moreau, the oldest of the children to imagine for years that she was the reason her mother left . . . the story begins in 1929 when Ella is seven and continues up until 1960 when she is a young woman . . . spanning the family's move back to France from America, following the death of Ella's grandfather, the years leading up to WWII and afterward . . . finding refuge in her art, Ella paints from her memories, and a treasure of canvases build up in her studio . . . eventually her father sends her to Paris where her artwork can be properly represented and sold in Madame DuBois' gallery . . . all in all, a gentle, flowing tale of a young girl with a God given talent, honestly told, and of a precious family, humanly flawed . . . but not beyond the redemption by a Holy and righteous God who ever waits to extend to us His grace . . .
