China Bayles gave up jurisprudence to settle down in small-town Texas and set up shop as an herbalist. But crimes that need solving keep coming her way, so China's back in action in this seventh book of the best selling, critically-acclaimed herbal mystery series. The story centers around an annual chili cook-off where a judge dies of a severe allergic reaction - to a peanut. Everyone knows peanuts don't belong in a bowl of Texas chili, so it's up to China to uncover the truth, in between dealing with her meddling mother and recently paralyzed fiancé, that is.©1998 Susan Wittig Albert (P)1999 HighBridge Company; 316 9 Crime Fiction Detective Fiction Genre Fiction Mystery Small Town & Rural Women Sleuths Women's Fiction China Crime

I normally don't buy abridged novels. Somehow I didn't realize this one was. I miss the extra details and content of an unabridged version. Like the gardening lore of the series.

Susan should not read her books! Makes me not want to listen to any more. This is not her forte. Stick to writing. Tone, rhythm, accents, feeling, speed all way off! Please stop narrating.

Terrible narration.
