About this listen

As you begin to read or listen to this book, you will become familiar with all the gods and goddesses of Chinese culture. The historical context will become clear, as well as the institutions, the law, the rules about sexuality, marriage, and children, and so much more. Understanding these aspects of their society before fully becoming engaged in the folklore that was the popular belief at the time, is essential to your comprehension of the cultural anecdotes in those tales. Towards the end of the book, you’ll also learn about Confucianism, Monism, Taoism, Buddhism, and other dominating religious or spiritual paths that have been common in China.

Are you curious yet? Then get ready for a unique combination of mystery and historicity.

I didn't know the Chinese believed all these kinds of things. I was happy with the stories and background information.

There are actually a lot of lousy books on the market, but this is certainly not one of them. This deserved my time. Finally, a book which gives you what you want. One more point: The storyteller appeared to be so great that I would definitely listen to it again. Perhaps even more than just once. I can't recall every single thing that's being stated in these audiobooks, so it would be worth reminding myself of what was being pointed out. The articulation of the words in this particular audiobook was terrific, in addition to all the info contained in it. Based upon that, I am really happy that I purchased the book. It was well worth my time.

Really good

It looks as if we are dealing with a pro here. The narrator's presentation was to die for. I am giving this specific manual 5 stars simply because I genuinely liked it. I wish I was truly great at publishing customer reviews, but you'll simply need to be pleased with this mediocre suggestion, namely, that the book was fascinating all the way through, till the very end.

This is worth it

This is cool. I loved this book. The gods, the goddesses, the creatures, all good. Dragons are cool in Chinese.

This book is ridiculous and absurd. When was it written? It treats Chinese culture and people as strange and inferior, and reads like a colonial anthropology book from 1912. Seriously. This is a waste of money and I wish I could return it. Don’t believe me? Just wait til you get to the part about the stunted Chinese intellect. There are great books unavailable on Audible and meanwhile this is on the site like a legitimate piece of cultural studies, which it is not, unless you want to know how ignorant, ethnocentric Europeans used to perceive the people and ideas of China. If old-timey racism is your thing, have at it. Can I please get my money back?

The outdated racism
