About this listen

As a reporter for the Pennysaver, Lucy is assigned a puff piece on upscale Chanticleer's Chocolates. But when a local fisherman drowns suspiciously, Lucy's certain her investigative skills could be put to better use. Everyone is shocked when Fern's Famous Fudge loses its status as 'Best Candy on the Coast' to Chanticleer's pricey newfangled confections. And Lucy soon discovers sultry store manager Tamzin Graves is only too eager to serve her male clientele. Leaving a throng of jealous women in her wake, it's almost no surprise when Tamzin is the next to turn up dead, covered in chocolate. Could a bitter ex-wife be behind the crimes? As Lucy closes in on the culprit, she may find herself locked in the clutches of a half-baked killer...

Sweet murder

This is the first Lucy Stone Mystery I have read. It was entertaining and suspenseful. I enjoyed the realism of the characters and the plot. I would enjoy listening to other books in this series.

Not as I had hoped

Let me start by saying I usually love Leslie Meier books. This one did not meet my expectations. First there is the narration that was hard to handle. Karen White tried to use a thick Maine accent which made it at times difficult to understand. Second was the CD breaks, I am not accustomed to this with audible.com. It really broke the story as it stated that this is the end of the CD. It needed to be edited out. Then there is the story itself which was pretty far fetched and more racy than her other books. I prefer a cleaner book by her.

Same narrator with different sound?

This review is mostly about the narration. I have listened to all (17) Lucy stone mysteries before “Chocolate Covered Murder”, they’ve all been narrated by the Karen White, including this one. However, in this narration, Lucy’s voice and sounds are very different, more breathy and little throat groans/growls. It takes me out of the story. The actual story and writing is very true to the other 17 books that came before, it’s only the voice narration that’s different- there’s also a pause after some of the chapters that say “the rest of this book is on the next cd please switch to cd 2”
