Nursing a broken heart, Robbie Jordan is trading in her life on the West Coast for the rolling hills of Southern Indiana. After paying a visit to her Aunt Adele, she fell in love with the tiny town of South Lick. And when she spots a "for sale" sign on a rundown country store, she decides to snap it up and put her skills as a cook and a carpenter to use.

Everyone in town shows up for the grand reopening of Pans 'n Pancakes, but when the mayor's disagreeable assistant is found dead, Robbie realizes that not all press is good press. With all eyes on her, she'll have to summon her puzzle-solving skills to clear her name, unscramble the town's darkest secrets, and track down a cold-blooded killer - before she's the next to die.

Pretty good story, but not the best I've read or listened to. Might be awhile before I listen to the second one.

Not sure I flipped for the story

I am a big fan of the author's cozy capers mystery series so I was looking for something and came across this series and I am so happy with it. book number one is off to a great start and I will definitely be listening to more. I live in the midwest so the setting hit home for me. all the Midwest charm was nice hear about. all the food was described in ways that made me really want that food. the mystery was complex and exciting. all in all, I really enjoyed this book.

another great series by Maddie Day!

There was a lot of suspense. The main character was patient and easy to picture.

The variety of characters.

If you have to use swear words, it’s way past time for you to get yourself a dictionary and thesaurus to improve how to express yourself or make a point.
That and the excess or daily use of alcohol is never a good thing.
Narration was great.

What mama used to say

Good story and entertaining with good character development, but the narrator voice sounds like a much older women so it was hard to reconcile the voice with the 27-year-old main Character

Entertaining

Loved the story line and characters. Very interesting voice of characters. Kodos to the narrator. I will be reading the next book in the series.

I liked the plot and thought it was a good easy story but it was very difficult to picture it in my head as I was listening due to the narrator. The lead character in the door was supposed to be 27 years old. The narrator sounded like she was at least 75. She was very well spoken but not the right choice for the character.

Narrator was not age appropriate

I’m want to like it. However the story was kinda boring and long for no reason. It also seemed that the story didn’t flow. Left me with a few questions at the end like the murders motive. What they said to the police and what they told Robbie was different. Also the romance triangle that they always put in these types of stories wasn’t needed in this book and it felt kinda of forced in this case almost an afterthought. I’m going to read the second book in hopes that the series gets better.

It was kinda boring

The loose ends are not tied in the plot. The story ended prematurely. The narrator did a good job.

Easy to engage with the characters and their issues that come about while solving a town involved mystery

Fun, well developed characters
