About this listen

A murder close to home. A case that seems open and shut. Will Poe's rush to judgment make his fiancé the next victim?

Edgar Allan "Poe" Rutherford didn't think twice when he took his fiancé's case. After all, Detective Alana Hu had known the victim since childhood. Besides, the evidence is easy to decode: all signs point to the victim's estranged husband.

As Poe works to get the killer behind bars, he can't help but be distracted by his fast-approaching wedding. But Maui beaches have a knack for luring people into a false sense of security, and Poe's error could extract the highest cost imaginable. After all, you can't have a wedding...without the bride.

Choice to Kill is the fifth book in the Murder on Maui mystery thriller series. If you like captivating characters, tropical locales, and twists you won't see coming, then you'll love Robert W. Stephens' gritty island tale.

This is the 5th book in the Murder on Maui series. The narrator is enjoyable & the character development over the course of the 5 novels is something I look forward to. Poe, Fox, Alana, & Honi are well developed and continue to grow with each book in the series. Thus, I’d suggest starting at the beginning with book 1.

The humor was funniest in the 1st 2 books of the series. (I kinda miss that.) There are still slices of Poe humor sprinkled in.

The mystery part keeps you interested, but not edge of your seat crazy ride. The story focuses on the mystery and on the character development & inter play of the characters. By book 5, I’m totally vested in the characters, especially Poe. I do kinda wish for a little more chemistry, between Alana & Poe.

Relative to the series, Book 3 has a narrator that I didn’t find appropriate to the Poe character, so definitely, listen to the sample of that narration. You could always read or skip book 3 if the narration bothered you.

This is a very nice series to be vested in.

Stephens is back on track with Poe getting his due on (most) the bad guys (but NOT without some sacrifice!). Fouhey has really taken over as the voice of Poe, which because of the first-person narration is paramount. We are left with a harrowing cliff-hanger on this one and I can't wait for next book. This foe is the most devious and dangerous that Poe has faced yet! There's a LOT of action and adventure on this little island...

One of the Best of Series
