About this listen

"I've told my kids for years that God doesn't make mistakes," writes Mary Beth Chapman, wife of Grammy award winning recording artist Steven Curtis Chapman. "Would I believe it now, when my whole world as I knew it came to an end?" Covering her courtship and marriage to Steven Curtis Chapman, struggles for emotional balance, and living with grief, Mary Beth's story is our story - wondering where God is when the worst happens. In Choosing to SEE, she shows how she wrestles with God even as she has allowed him to write her story - both during times of happiness and those of tragedy. Readers will hear firsthand about the loss of her daughter, the struggle to heal, and the unexpected path God has placed her on.

This book was a wonderful message of hope and resilience told from a mom's heart.

Wonderful story of hope

Needs a different narrator.
The story is good, but the voice inflections were not right for a lot of it.

Great story. Didn't care for the narration.

Excellent story with many ups and downs of life but the major difficulty of losing a child. There are several themes that run thru this book but the main one for me is that we are all flawed humans in need of a savior.

Very emotional story

Definitely worth listening to (though the narrator was not great). I applaud Mary Beth for being able to write this book less than 2 yrs after Maria’s passing. I am grateful for her words of wisdom, of truth, and of looking to the Lord in the mist of great tragedy. I am also thankful for her honesty, of her life, of wrestling with God, and not making everything out to be peaches and rainbows. Life is not easy, not even for Christians and in truth we learn the most about Gods grace during the hardest of times. Now the mother of two small children myself, I am reminded to slow down and enjoy all the chaos that having littles in the house brings. It could be gone tomorrow and even if not they grow up too fast. By the time I finally got around to reading/listening to this book, more than a decade has passed since it’s writing. In fact, this year marks the 15th anniversary of Maria’s passing. I remember it like it was yesterday, just 2 yrs after my fathers death, and I couldn’t understand why such an incredible family would be hit with this tragedy. It made me angry at God, and up rose the anger that I’d try to bury with my own fathers death. It wasn’t until MB husband released “beauty will rise” that I was able to wrestle with my own feelings with God about my fathers death. I’m beyond grateful for MBC and SCC for sharing their gut-wrenching story with the world, that we might all find hope and peace in our savior, and remember that indeed, spring is coming.

Worth listening, and taking in Gods grace

Awesome book - I've already listened to it twice! It's the type of book that no matter how many times you read it, you'll always pick up something new. It makes me sad that the Chapman's had to go this grief but happy in the fact that Mary Beth was able to write this book in order to help others.

Already read it twice!

I chose this book because we are in the process of adopting from China. I loved hearing her heart on adoption and that so many of her struggles are mine as well. I didn't realize that the book was primarily about loss. I sobbed and sobbed, but am thankful I kept listening and got to hear that despite all "Spring is Coming".

Fabulous

This helped me working through the grief of losing my son in a tragic car accident last year. He had just finished college and started his first job.

Very healing and helpful
