About this listen

"She's my match . . . in more ways than one."

Sherif: Although my brother disappeared many cycles ago, I've never given up hope that he's alive. I get word about a human who has seen him, but she's evading me. When I finally come face to face with her, the situation becomes a whole lot more complicated, because I can't deny the pull toward the female with the smart mouth. She doesn't know it yet, but she'll be by my side as I rule over my people.

Zuri: I heard about the Kaluma looking for me, and I'm not interested. No way. It's bad enough he knows I'm human, but if he finds out the reason I'm free from my captors, he'll surely lop my head off with his deadly blades.

But he's hard to shake, and when we finally meet, I realize there's a whole other problem—he's claiming me as his mate, and I'm not sure I can resist.

Contains mature themes.

As much as I loved this book I couldn’t get past the female narrator sounding like a robot when reading the males line or the male narrator making the female sound like 98 year old female. It was bad in the beginning but it got worse as the story went on. I will enjoy it 100% more if just read the book.

The Hero: Sherif - he is a Kaluma Pardux (Chieftain) from Torin and is looking for a human woman who lives alone on another planet who is said to have seen another Kaluma warrior that he thinks might be important to him. He wants to get information from her on this male she saw so he can see if it was his brother Kazel who disappeared years ago.

The heroine: Zuri (a.k.a Hack) - she had been in survival mode for years. She lives and works on a dangerous planet and hides the fact she is human by disguising herself as another race of alien. She has things in her past she doesn’t want to remember or for others to find out. She doesn’t like the feeling of giving a crap about anyone or anything, she knows that everything she has ever cared about got taken away and brutally killed.

The story: After Sherif finally catches up with Zuri, he tells her that he wants to find his brother because their father was the previous Pardux of their clan and he ended up going crazy and abusing many of the members of their society. Sherif wants to find his brother and see if that craziness is somehow passed down in their blood or if he can have a family for himself. Zuri doesn’t want to face her past, so she escapes from Sherif, but it isn’t long before she decides to go back and face her past and repay Kazel for what he did for her.

Zuri is tough and has been living on her own for a while, she never gives an inch when it comes to Sherif. She had been a wealthy and generous fashionista with her own successful boutique back on earth. They spend a lot of time fighting each other, though it isn’t long before she starts having dreams of him. That is what happens when a human female starts a mating bond with a Kaluma. The story is a good one as Sherif’s brother is being held as a slave on another planet in a place that is well guarded.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and was narrated in dual narration by Ember Bell and Todd Mclaren. Todd Mclaren has a decent voice, but is not one of my favorite narrators, he sounds a bit older than I like and his voice for female characters is atrocious, especially on the intimate scenes. Ember has an expressive voice, but like Todd, she sounded a bit old for Zuri and her voice for male characters was bad. I’m glad that the next book goes back to Jillian Macie. I liked her better. Either way, this series would have been much better in duet narration.

I didn’t like the narrators, but the story was goo

This was my favorite so far out of the series. Zuri and Sharif were true enemies to lovers, than reluctant allies to lovers and next thing you know, they are completely infatuated. The tension and angst was perfection along with the spice. I am excited to see what happens with Kezel

Sherif and Zuri

Story line was quite good and kept it interesting, but I feel I would have enjoyed it more with different narrators. Man narration of female lines were often squeaky while female narrating man lines always sounded as if he is angry. Really ruins all the romance when main character sounds pomapastic and angry all the time. I think I would have enjoyed the book more if I would have read it instead.

Decent story but annoying narration

Great story but it was hard to listen to. The female voice was very Ai/Robot-y. Totally distracted from the story.

Is the female voice Ai/Robot?
