About this listen

Fighting for independence goes beyond an infant nation, but love might just conquer all.

It's the year 1776, and Captain Caleb Haslet has come home to Portsmouth, Rhode Island, after two years at sea chasing pirates and keeping British ships from the fledgling American nation. He wants nothing more than to settle into domestic life and finally claim the new bride duty had forced him to leave behind.

Though she now has her own life defending her property from British soldiers, as well as doing charity work, which provides prisoners with basic creature comforts, Abigail Haslet is both excited and anxious that Caleb thinks to take up where they left off. But how can she give her heart to a man who'll leave again when his country calls?

A marriage of convenience is no longer an option, and neither is it practical. When plying Abigail with kisses and spending time with her fails, Caleb decides to take advantage of her being captured by the British to make her see the truth - he's in love with her - and he'll waste no time in claiming his wife to show her he chooses her this time around.

Note: This book was released in 2013 as Winning His Wife but has since undergone further editing and has been expanded with added scenes.

Loved it!

I absolutely love this author and her narrator. Sandra Sookoo l’s style of writing is what gets me with her books. She puts in a little if everything in her story’s. I LOVE Abigail’s character. A Strong because wife with her on opinion and head strong thinking is what made her husband fall in love with her. The love scene is deliciously intoxicating. This book is adorable a must read! Don’t let it get by you. Happy Reading.

Liked the hero, not sure about his wife

I can’t say that I took to Abigail, to a certain extent I understood how she felt in that, she thought she had a marriage of convenience and was afraid to let herself go and love her husband, Caleb. Abigail was wary of her husband going back to sea and leaving her alone again. She did have a caring side though for others through her charity work. Caleb was a handsome man and he seemed to have the patience of a saint when dealing with Abigail. He was such a good man and did his best for Abigail. There is also the tension caused by the situation with the British soldiers. The narrator read the story well and tried to bring life to the story by using different voices for the characters.
