About this listen

Charged with gross incompetence, Satan is fired from his job as prince of Hell and exiled to that most terrible of places: English suburbia. Forced to live as a human under the name of Jeremy Clovenhoof, the dark lord not only has to contend with the fact that no one recognizes him or gives him the credit he deserves but also has to put up with the bookish war-gamer next door and the voracious man-eater upstairs.

Heaven, Hell, and the city of Birmingham collide in a story that features murder, heavy metal, cannibalism, armed robbers, devious old ladies, Satanists who live with their mums, gentlemen of limited stature, dead vicars, petty archangels, flamethrowers, sex dolls, a blood-soaked school assembly, and way too much alcohol.

More politically driven than plot driven

The author made the devil ignorant of the earth, sex, and all the rest, in order to emphasize how Christians are zealotous, racist, bigoted radicals.

It's cartoonish AT BEST and prejudice and politically divisive at worst.

I want my money back 😭

This was the fun I've been looking for!!

Satan is fired and exiled to earth to figure out how to live with humans. What could go wrong? And that's where the fun begins!! The story traveled to strange and unexpected places, and you really never knew what was going to happen next. I laughed out loud many times. Great writing! And the performance was excellent!! And for those of you thinking this is an anti-religion book, it isn't. Really! Although, Joan of Arc does punch St. Peter in the nose. But he had it coming... And good triumphs over evil in the end. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to listening to the others in the series.

Even better than I hoped

I’ve been waiting for this book to go on sale for a long, long time, as soon as it did I snapped it up and was not disappointed. Many times I was laughing out loud at the surprises and absurdities, luckily the only one disturbed by my outbursts was my cat. Just loved it and it’s on my “to listen to again” list.

A Hell of a good read

I thought this book was great! The narrator was amazing and the story made me laugh and cringe.

Throughout the story I had to keep reminding myself that the character, Jeremy, is Satan. You think that maybe, the character may be heading towards redemption, and then he does something truly awful to the people he calls friends. Intentional or not.

I am looking forward to then next book and to see how this progresses.

One word of caution the book does have a lot of religious themes that may be upsetting to some.

Such a good read

This book is amazing and a fantastic lead into a series of similarly amazing yet unique books. 10/10 would recommend to the casual stoner who listens to these.

Good characters

Just my style of humor. I laughed out loud at many of the twists in the story.

Wonderful story in the great British tradition of satire

I really enjoyed this book interesting premise to start and enough twists and turns to keep you involved along the way. Very British. Enough hidden references to pop culture to keep you on your toes while ultimately dealing with some reasonably deep concepts of freedom of choice for humans. Well Worth a listen. Will certainly get the next book in the series
