Lee Slater and his gang of lowlife desperadoes didn't know that Smoke Jensen had given up his gunslinger status to become a family man. Stirring up a motherlode of trouble was their first mistake. Shooting Smoke's wife Sally was their second. Chances are, they're not going to live to make a third.
Contains mature themes.

It is even more fun knowing that Preacher raised Smoke since he was a young boy (when his dad was killed) and now Smoke's age is in his early 30's. Smoke grows up to be not only the LAST mountain man, but also the quickest draw or fastest gun in the West. In fact he becomes the most famous gunfighter in the World. He is also incredibly strong and can beat and brawl anyone to death if he wants to.
Smoke kills over 100 bounty hunters and bad guys in this book and the killing starts off in chapter 1 then crescendos near the glorious end. Which is quite a feat as he says in this book he's probably killed about 200 men up until now. Smoke kills like and Indian as well as uses guerilla warfare, he kills with is long guns, pistols, knifes and his fists. Sometimes with dynamite when he wants to kill baddies in batches.
Smoke is quite prescient about his prediction of law and order gone awry in the 1980's and beyond.
It is too bad the author has to have women, girls and boys raped in all his books. All the while the same bad guys use the woman's husband for target practice.
Good writing: "They watched as Smoke stood up from the table, seemed like he just kept getting up."
Good writing regarding a young gunfighter's thoughts: "His youthfulness overwriting caution, the young think of death only happens to someone else and never themselves."
