About this listen

Stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with three violent prisoners, Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter becomes the hunter and the hunted in a desperate fight for survival....

After an early spring thaw on the Alaskan coast, Anchorage police discover a gruesome new piece of evidence in their search for a serial killer: a dismembered human foot.

In Kincaid Park, a man is arrested for attacking a female jogger. Investigators believe they have finally captured the sadistic serial killer. But one deputy is sure they have the wrong man.

In the remote northern town of Deadhorse, Alaska, Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter escorts three handcuffed prisoners onto a small bush plane on route to Anchorage. The men have been charged with racketeering, drug trafficking, and kidnapping. But Cutter doesn’t expect any trouble from them. It’s a routine mission and a nonstop flight - or so he thinks. When the plane makes an unexpected landing in the middle of nowhere, all hell breaks loose. The prisoners murder a pilot and guard. The plane is torched and blown up. And the last few survivors are forced to flee into the wilderness. But their nightmare’s just beginning. Back in Anchorage, deputy Lola Teariki has traced the dismembered foot to a missing girl - and the serial psychopath who slaughtered her.

It’s one of the prisoners on Cutter’s flight....

Now it’s a deadly game of survival. With no means of communication, few supplies, and ravenous grizzly bears and wolves lurking in the shadows, Cutter has to battle the unforgiving elements while the cold-blooded killer wants his head on a stick. Here in Alaska, nature can be cruel - but this time, human nature is crueler....

Drawing on his experiences as a deputy US marshal in Alaska, Cold Snap rings terrifyingly true.

great book and great narrator

this is book 4 in a series. I hope there will be a book 5. Love this narrator. Without his great work, the book wouldn't be the same. But be prepared for some difficult, gory sections.

A really good thriller

Arliss Cutter has become my new favorite series. Readers who are looking for a good thriller will definitely enjoy this book. The action never stops and there are a number of hair-raising episodes throughout the story. The Alaskan setting makes for a different and interesting read. David Chandler‘s narration is excellent; his voice is well-suited for this particular story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good thriller.

Cameron is a master storyteller...

Audiobook Review – While a lot of crime thrillers can become quite repetitive, Author Marc Cameron has found a way to stand out with his fourth Arliss Cutter series crime thriller, “Cold Snap.” Cameron has mastered telling riveting stories of the US Marshal’s mission of ‘hunting and apprehending lethal criminals.’ His accumulation of the Alaskan backdrop in this series makes the stories come to life. His detailed story lines allow the reader to feel as though they are in the middle of the action. Well-paced and full of action, the narrative moves along well, using well developed characters to keep the story intriguing through the book. Cameron’s development of main character, Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter continues to be inspiring. While trying to solve gruesome murders, resolve family problems and transport lethal criminals all at the same time, Arliss Cutter appears to be tough, real, and relatable. He’s become one of my ‘top’ favorite protagonists in the thriller genre. In this tale, Cameron keeps the tension high when Cutter is transporting a group of criminals back to Anchorage only to encounter plane troubles during the flight back. The plane lands in the middle of nowhere in the Alaskan wilderness, leaving Cutter and others trying to survive the ‘wintery’ wilds of Alaska and the ruthless criminals. Also, back in civilization, there is a killer on the loose who dismembers female victims (prostitutes) with ease. Cold Snap has several strong plot lines that move along effectively and permits the reader to remain engaged as Cameron ties the story together slowly, but consistently. I was very impressed with how Cameron connects the brutality of the winter cold along with the story's violent actions – very creative writing. Also, some scenes in the book are not for the squeamish at heart but it’s not horrifyingly graphic either. It’s a crime mystery thriller and Cameron is an excellent enough writer to not make it repulsive. Great story telling combined with vivid descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness and an explosive ending makes Cold Snap a great read! Cameron also seemed to set up the next book, Book Five, with a few hints about Cutter’s brother, Ethan’s death. I’m already looking forward to it! I highly recommend Cold Snap, it’s a great listen/read!

Best one in the series

Wow. I liked the previous ones but this one is hands down the best. And David Chandler is superb as as always. Any more would have to contain spoilers.

I Appreciate All the Details

I never wonder if his facts are correct. They don’t vary from book to book. He knows the area and the people - military, police, FBI or indigenous people. He leaves nothing half hearted about the writing.
