About this listen

Finding missing children is Matthew’s job—but this time it’s his own daughter who’s disappeared.

When private investigator Matthew Hill picks up the call from his wife, Sally, his world comes crashing down. Their eight-year-old daughter, Amelie, is missing. One second, she was there, the next, she was gone.

It’s the very nightmare they’ve been dreading. Long ago, Matthew left the force after a woman blamed him for her son’s death, promising that he too would one day feel her pain. It’s a threat that’s hung over his family ever since, and now it’s Amelie’s picture on the news.

Matthew knows how these things go—the longer their daughter is missing, the less hope there is of finding her alive.

As the clock ticks and a canal is searched, he and Sally must reckon with their greatest fear…

You'll want to keep your eyes open until the very end!

I kept putting off reading this book, I'm not certain why, but I'm glad I finally did. The pace, suspense, and storyline were all really good. My heart went out to Matthew and Sally when Amelia went missing, but there were a couple of times I wanted to scream. Matthew, understandably distraught, wanting answers and to find his daughter, was doing more harm to the search to find her than good. Then, Olivia, searching for her mother, enterers the pages and adds even more momentum to the plot. I won't say anymore because I don't want to risk saying too much.

A bridge too far on character behavior

I read and listen to a lot of fiction. I believe this is my first Teresa Driscoll book. I listened to it. The narration was fine. The actions of all the primary characters, however, were often so unbelievable that they required way too much suspension of belief. I was going to list all the many instances where the author lost me but decided it was too much work. I almost stopped listening multiple times. So, save yourself the trouble. If you must listen to this book, do so only for the first chapters to get the gist of the plot. (BTW: this could’ve been a really good book without this fatal flaw, because the premise and set up were good.) Then skip to the last few chapters for the denouement. People don’t behave the way described, no matter the supposed trauma depicted in this book.

Detectives Child Missing…

This was a great read. Enjoyed it on audible. Basically, a child was abducted while her mother was outside a store setting up a carpool. Mysterious letters had been received tying back to the father (a detective) going back to work, but was the person writing the letters who had the little girl? And how does the person who needed his help who had to leave his office when he found out about his child tie in??? I enjoyed this book, definitely worth a credit.

Very slow

It was very slow for me…. I thought it would have a lot more twisty and turns. I was so bored with it

A book where nothing happens

I am still waiting for the plot, the twist anything. Random characters and nothing made sense. The main characters were insufferable ..ending was a lot of telling .

So boring!!! Do NOT recommend

Tried to return this early on but Audible would not allow it. A girl disappears and then nothing happens! This book is poorly developed, boring, and overall unenjoyable. I listen to 1 or 2 books per week, love mysteries, and really wish I could have the credit back. It was hard to pay attention because it was dragging and characters so uninteresting. On a positive note, the narrator has a lovely voice.
