About this listen

Taton has spent the last five years dedicated to improving an invention that will help people deal with stress. She came up with the concept in order to deal with the guilt of her late friend's passing. When she gets the opportunity to do a research study that might put the product on the market, she wastes no time in seizing the opportunity. With the help of her sister and Dr. Irene Campbell, Taton navigates the twists and turns of entrepreneurship, and in the process, she is faced with a whole new sense of self-discovery.

Great story of differently abled life

Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue and Christy Sassmen do an wonderful job of bringing to life the personal and interpersonal struggle many folks who experience mental illness and emotional problems encounter daily. I cannot say much except that this is an amazing story in so many ways. It speaks to stigma, symptom management and 'normal' life. To say much about the story line gives the incredible power this story shares less impact. It is a great story of love and angst. Kudos to Nicole for taking the time to write such a real yet uplifting story. This is as educational as it is loving. My hope is that other folks who love women loving women fiction will embrace this with open hearts and eyes because this is who many of us are or love,

compassion and purpose

Compassionate Minds
By: Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue

A woman has worked on a project for the past few years. She and her sister and another woman were getting ready for trials when things take a turn. They find a friendship and possibly more. There is something from the past that could change everything. The characters were interesting, each one adding to the story.

This isn't my normal genre but it was an interesting exploration.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Christy Sassmen brought the characters to life.

Interesting

This is well written and the narrator brings the story and the characters to life, great job. The story is a smooth one. It has twists, strong females, bonds, they were all trying to find their strengths. Demons from the past loom will they destroy everything or will it cause stronger bonds and strength of character? I received this as a gift and this is my voluntary review.

short, sweet and slightly underwhelming

If you're into lesbian romance (especially older lesbian) then I easily recommend this book. It was a lot shorter than I like but I appreciate the author not dragging on the drama or adding more unnecessary drama in to make it longer. I'd rather it be short than plumped up with nonsensical drama.

The character's were well thought out and the chemistry was there. The plot was ok. It didn't have very high stakes so the climax didn't really have a big obstacle to overcome. I'd call it more of an issue. But all in all, I enjoyed it and was sad it was over so soon. I would recommend this book and will gladly read more of the authors work in the future.

The narrator wasn't my favorite. The ultra low; trying really hard to sound masculine, voice she gave to the protagonist was really off-putting.

Good lessons, modern lifestyle

Compassionate Minds by Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue. Narrated by Christy Sassman
I received a free copy and willingly offer this honest review.
I found the author’s writing to be repetitive and “lesson teaching” rather than subtle and nuanced while it presented some very important concepts for modern living in complicated relationships.
Christy Sassman’s narration was consistent with the various voices. I didn’t care for the sound of the main character’s voice which was too deep-throated and stilted, lacking emotional nuances. Some of that could have been due to the text and inadequate depth of character development.
I’m glad I listened and recommend Compassionate Minds for those who need to look at humans in alternate lifestyles, and to learn to be compassionate toward people who, like most of us, have lived through life-altering experiences that compel their actions.

Not my cup of tea

Not a long story, an interesting concept, but a struggle to get through.

The writing was repetitive, both in dialogue and narrative. Some repetition is good, but I found this a tad excessive, as it seems that the same things are getting repeated, by all characters, not only in dialogue, but also in narrative.

The pacing of the story was off, not sure if it was the narration, or the writing itself, but what seems like mere moments in the book, were months, weeks, days, in the actual timeline. It made character development hard to accept.

With the pacing issues, and repetitiveness, I found it hard to connect with the characters. I couldn’t sympathise as I listened.

As previously mentioned, it was a struggle to listen to and I am not sure if I would recommend it.
