About this listen

An unfortunate accident, an old grudge, and a Sapphic fake romance.

Since A-List actress and Hollywood's sweetheart Wren Acker came out, not only is she at the top of the acting world; she's also crush number one for her queer fanbase. Loving life, loving her job, loving her cat-everything is fantastic. Except that lack of any kind of private life.

When a car accident brings her to the ER, the bottom falls out of her world when she realizes that reserved Doctor Taylor, her physician, is Madison Taylor from camp way back when she was a kid. And boy, does Madison still hold a well-earned grudge for how that all ended.

When Madison ends up working on Wren's set as a medical consultant, suddenly everyone's assuming they're a couple. The media loses it, their fanbase grows even further, and the entire thing snowballs.

Every grudge has to be moved on from eventually, right?

Contains mature themes.

Like all the other works that G. Benson has put forth. This one is absolutely worth the listen. You will be laughing, crying and cheering the characters on as they navigate through so many different tropes it’s wonderful. Highly recommend this story. The narration was a little slow but once I started it up to 1.2 it worked really well.

All the best tropes wrapped in one

Great storyline. Kept my interest the entire way through - and that’s saying a lot! It’s the best LBGTQ+ book I’ve ever listened to or read.

Fun & Interesting

I did like the characters and plot, but the book seemed to go on for a long time with no change in tempo. it was a nice story. but not memorable.

Just ok.

The journey of grief was beautiful and made me cry more than once. I don’t think I’ve ever really had representation of adhd in a book. This book finally gave me the chance to go “omg yes that happens to me” during certain moments and i’m so grateful for that. The kind of fourth wall breaking at one point made me laugh so hard I had to stop working for a minute. This book puts the slow in slow burn.

One of the best things ever.

This is my first time listening to a G Benson book and just wow! The realistic take on ADHD experienced by Madison and the in depth experiences and grief without delving too deep into the nitty gritty just felt so raw. The relationships between the characters felt so realistic and soft and made me yearn for the days back in high school theatre. If you're willing to sit back and relax and listen to a cute fake dating romance that gets real with heavier topics like grief and loss, then I highly recommend Purposefully Accidental ❤️

Two very different lesbian personalities come together by chance. The unlikely pairing of an A-list actress and an emergency room physician makes for amusing, angsty, and poignant exchanges. The doctor suffers from severe depression driven by the death of her wife two years earlier. The actress is brilliant and alluringly sweet, but a fire burns beneath the smiles and bubbles; she wants to shake up the film industry. I loved this story, unable to quit listening.

Mesermirizingly honest take on Hollywood.

I’d like to preface my review with a spoiler warning. I am unsure how to place the spoiler tag so please beware. Though I will be vague as I can be, just in case.

Avoiding names, as those who have listened will know what I mean, this story ended up hitting harder in spots I didn’t expect. I have a wife and despite all being well, this story more than once had me crying. Fretting over nothing but I still couldn’t help but feel what the author was putting out.

I’m beyond glad there was a happy ending. And everything felt handled really well in all areas, even parts where I am sure we shared frustrations. It was hard not to enjoy the whole cast; if anyone can manifest them, please. I’ll donate a chicken, candle, or whatever needed for the spell.

And yes, agreed author, fanfics are where it’s at. XD Thanks for the fun read/listen!

I’m a rom com lover who normally gets bored after the 6-7 hour mark, but this book kept me engaged the entire way! Great story and detail - celebrity faux romance trope is a classic for a reason. :)

Worth it
