About this listen

No one said going home would be easy....

Black sheep and all-around troublemaker Betty Jo Barker is back home and hoping for a do-over. Things are finally looking up until Beau Simon comes to town. The man pushes every button she owns and manages to awaken long-dead emotions she'd rather leave buried. Beneath the surface, she knows she's a wreck - her scars run deep - and she can't help but wonder: Is Beau Simon the one who can fix her?

Beau Simon, the brightest star in Hollywood, has come to New Waterford for one reason only. He's determined to have Betty Jo Barker star in his next film. He knows she's perfect for the part, but a past encounter might prove more than a little difficult to overcome. As Beau turns on the charm, hoping to win over this complicated woman, he realizes it won't be easy. Only time will tell if what lies beneath can ever be overcome - or if love can heal all....

Betty and Beau!

I was drawn to Betty Jo’s destructive personality from the start because though she’s purposely cruel to her siblings it’s obvious that she’s even harder on herself and I couldn’t wait to find out more. She hides her emotional pain behind a tough exterior, flaunts her spectacular body with promiscuous behavior and never lets anyone see her pain though it’s tearing her apart inside. I was equally intrigued by Beau whose perception of Betty changes throughout their story because the glimpses he gets into the pain she so carefully hides makes his infatuation that much stronger. He’s famous, gorgeous and American royalty but his callous treatment of Betty from a past encounter and his need to have her star in his movie leads to an emotional intimacy between them that was highly appealing to me. When small town Michigan and Hollywood intersect their chemistry is unstoppable and I had tears in my eyes over the pain and heartache Betty reveals. I loved the complex relationship between the Barker sisters, the poignant heartbreak of the realities of their father Trent’s early onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and the trauma it creates for the girls and their grandfather. This series is so much more than your average romance and the vocal acting skills of narrator Maxine Mitchell added a chef’s kiss of perfection that I won’t soon forget.

A great way to end the trilogy!

Yes, back in 2012, I originally enjoyed this book, so when I saw the audiobooks available under the "audio escape" subscription, I was more than happy to revisit the Barker Triplets, and their madcap escapades.
Betty-Jo was always the rebellious triplet, the one that looked the sex kitten, even though she was identical to her siblings.
Bo was a Hollywood icon, and yet the combination of Bo and Betty-Jo is sizzling.
Their encounters are well worth reading.
Plus this episode revels some surprising revelations.

Fantastic!

This series has lots off twists and turns. I couldn’t wait for the next book in this series. The narrator is excellint at changing her voice for the various characters, expressing each one’s emotions and character.
I can’t wait for each story

Choice of words

The use of Christ Jesus regularly, by almost all characters, was very disappointing. I would have enjoyed the story otherwise.

Better than Book 2

The three full length audiobooks in this series are included in the Plus catalog. For this reason, I recommend listening if you’re not looking for anything too heavy.

Book 3 was an improvement over Book 2. Book 1 was by far my favorite of the 3.

Phenomenal series!

Loved each book in series! Each sister had their own story to tell, but I think my favorite was Betty Jo. I feel like her redemption was full circle. Missing out if you don’t read. And while I love male voices for their part, Maxine Mitchell did an incredible part as narrator!

enjoyable

what a good way to tell Betty's story. I liked that she wasn't portrayed as a goody two shoes but as a person who is flawed like the rest of us. And Beau is the perfect match up for her. I really liked this series.
