About this listen

Every fortune-hunting female in London is after the newly titled Earl of Drake, but he's intent on finding a wife whose heart is true. So, while drunkenly jesting with his friends in a pub one night, he has an idea - what if the ladies of the ton didn't know he was a wealthy earl? All he has to do is pose as a servant at his friend's summer country house party and make sure the guest list is full of beautiful, eligible debutantes. What could possibly go wrong?

Miss Frances Wharton is far more interested in fighting for the rights of the poor than in marriage, but her mother insists she attend a summer house party - and find herself a husband. Frances would rather wed a goat than the pompous man her mother has in mind, so in order to dissuade the would-be suitor, she vows to behave like a shrew. The only person she can be herself with is the kind, handsome footman she runs into at every turn. Their connection is undeniable, and the divide between them is no match for the passion they feel. But what will happen when Frances learns that the footman she adores is actually the earl she despises? In a game where everything is false, can they convince each other that their love is true?

Contains mature themes.

This was a new author to me, but it was a cute regency romance. While I enjoyed the book, it seemed to be a slow starter for me, but once I actually got into, I enjoyed it. There are explicit, or sizzling, sex scenes near the end of the story so I would only recommend it for older, age appropriate readers. 😊

I think the story was extended longer than it should have been . The plot was fun and the characters were interesting but it was the narrator that kept me invested

The narrator is fantastic

I really liked to idea of the story but the end really ruined it for me. The plot and characters were quite good and makes me want to read another. I’m just curious if to write this book, the author was given a quota to fill in of physical love… that’s how the “love” parts felt. They were fillers rather than actually helping the story along…

Cute premise

I liked this story-fun historical romance not a lot of heated moments but enjoyable

Admittedly romances aren't my cup of tea but this one kept us entertained on our road trip.

It might be a better one , if it was narrated by Rosalyn landor. I will probably avoid this narrator, she was terrible.

Ok book

I love Valerie’s books and this is no exception. However, I was turned off by the narrator from the start. I actually almost shut it off but pushed through. I’m happy I did because this book was fun and entertaining. I’m not sure what it is but her voice did not appeal to me (I’m sorry Christine). The acting was good though and I did get use to her.

I love Valerie’s books!

This story is bizarre in premise and throughout. I was so excited at the idea of a role reversal at the title (not the governess and the nobleman), but I guess we can't be that creative. It's not even like the story is at all realistic in any way, so they might as well make something different and cool. It's not the worst, but I mourn for what could have been.

If only they were real footmen...
