About this listen

The legendary frontman of Judas Priest, one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time, celebrates five decades of heavy metal in this tell-all memoir.

Most priests hear confessions. This one is making his.

Rob Halford, front man of global iconic metal band Judas Priest, is a true "Metal God." Raised in Britain's hard-working, heavy industrial heartland, he and his music were forged in the Black Country. Confess, his full autobiography, is an unforgettable rock 'n' roll story—a journey from a Walsall council estate to musical fame via alcoholism, addiction, police cells, ill-fated sexual trysts, and bleak personal tragedy, through to rehab, coming out, redemption...and finding love.

Now, he is telling his gospel truth.

Told with Halford's trademark self-deprecating, deadpan Black Country humor, Confess is the story of an extraordinary five decades in the music industry. It is also the tale of unlikely encounters with everybody from Superman to Andy Warhol, Madonna, Jack Nicholson, and the Queen. More than anything else, it's a celebration of the fire and power of heavy metal.

Rob Halford has decided to Confess. Because it's good for the soul.

Critic reviews

"Confess is a must-read for Judas Priest fans as it is written from a place of honesty and passion while done with integrity....a page-turner." (Sonic Perspectives)

"A powerful, often shocking read." (Vintage Guitar)

"Rob Halford though is one of the few metal musicians who actually has a story worth hearing....Confess, true to its title, doesn't hold back....Confess manages to be both dark and at times endearing. Halford's openness, despite some dark themes, allows for his humor to shine through....It may have taken a while for Halford to tell his story, but it was certainly worth the wait." (New Noise)

Delivers the Goods!

More than I expected. I really enjoyed learning about Rob's life, and you can tell - you get it all, the good and the unpleasant. I have a new-found respect for Rob. I have been listening to Priest since the early albums. All the best to you Rob!

Awesome listen!

I'm a man in my later 50's. As such I remember hearing Judas Priest records at my friend's houses in my early teens (the records were often "borrowed" from my friend's older brothers or sisters).

I grew up in a tiny midwestern town in Michigan. Like Mr Halford, I also happen to be gay and went thru many of the same questions as I grew up; along with the same worries of "discovery" regarding my sexual orientation. I'm also a musician who played in a number of heavy metal and hard rock bands where I had to hide my authentic self.

I found this book to be both uplifting and spot on in detailing the life, love and devotion to music and the mental "coming of age" of a gay man.
Mr Halford was a fantastic narrator. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is a Priest fan or has spent years of their life feeling like a misfit due to who they are.

True to the heart

This is a great book. Rob really took down the curtain and gave us a look into Judas Priest and most of all, Rob himself. He is the Metal God. When you are listening to an album or at a concert you only hear and see the perfect life. We all see life was not perfect for Rob. The grit it took to get through the emotional torment of being a gay man in one of the most metal bands of their time (in my opinion). As an outsider remembering when he came out was unbelievable. Fans were shocked and stunned, but they loved JP and I believe he may have turned some hardcore homophobs into a little more accepting people. Hats off to Rob and his great read. Thanks for the awesome bedtime story.

JP Fan MUST read

This book took me on a journey of emotions. I have been a Judas Priest fan for decades. So to hear Rob Halford tell me his story was amazing. I fell in love with him and the band even more! I laughed, cried, sighed, applauded, and said “WOW” so many times.
The Metal God did not disappoint.

Thank you Rob.

I enjoyed the book as much as I enjoyed all the music you created through your journey in music. Priest is one of my favorite bands and thank you for all the work you've done through the years to make it happen. Also, love Resurrection. Awesome my friend. You being gay never bothered me for one minute. To me, you are the greatest rock singer of all time..

Fascinating

What this man has gone through and still come out a success is beyond impressive. This also shows that The Metal God is indeed a humble man underneath.

Simply the best!

Rob's memories had me laughing , and crying. I didn't want it to end. I am a metal maniac, have been since birth, but this is so well done you needn't be one to thoroughly enjoy listening to it. I love you Rob Halford and I want to thank you for this candid book of a life.
