About this listen

The Alliance has been fighting a losing battle against the Syndicate Worlds for over a century. Now, Captain John “Black Jack” Geary, who returned to the fleet after a hundred-year suspended animation, must keep the Alliance one step ahead of its merciless foe…

After a series of deadly engagements, the Alliance fleet is severely damaged and its arsenal is running low. Forced to halt in the Baldur Star System to raid the Syndic mines for raw materials, Geary is anxious to get moving again. But what should the fleet’s next move be? The Syndics are starting to catch on to Geary’s tactics, and as the Alliance ships jump from system to system, it’s getting harder to keep one step ahead.

What’s more, Geary has started to piece fragments of intelligence together into a highly disturbing picture: The Syndics have been keeping the existence of another potential player in the war a secret--and this unknown power may have the means to annihilate the human race…

Good series continuation..., but

This 3rd iteration of 'The Lost Fleet' series is well written & well performed, in keeping with it's previous two novels. However, this novel employed much too much time-wasting on a couple main characters' emotional turmoil - adding nothing to the story or overarching plot.

Besides needing to fast forward through those (many) annoying, blathering interruptions, this novel is worth the time & credit. Though, I do find myself Hoping, (with a capital H), that the 4th installment of 'The Lost Fleet', Valiant, leaves the *prolonged & unnecessary emotional tantrums by the wayside.

Blood in the water

John Geary has been using tactics that the Syndic and the Alliance have forgotten after 100 years of warfare. However, like all predators the Syndic is learning how to catch their prey. They hand Captain ‘Black Jack’ Geary his first defeat since taking command of the Alliance fleet. Is this the end of the Alliance fleet? Have the Syndic fleet finally won? No idea because I haven’t finished the series. This book is true to what happens in war when one side is handed an overwhelming defeat. General Patton after being handed a defeat by German forces said that a true commander feels the loss of all their people. However, a true leader must pick himself up and keep going because his people need him. Will John Geary learn this in the next book or this one?

Get Over Your Self

I like this series. I can't say that about the second series abought in this universe, it's not enjoyable as this one though. One more thing, Why is it that so many protagonist in military SciFi are so self-hating? In this series the protagonist is such a `wuss. I have no other way to say it.

Meh

Narrator is awesome. The rest is a hot mess. I got all of these on a major sale. Even still, a waste of money. "Captain" John Geary reveals he's a weak, poor excuse for a man, much less a commanding officer. Author reveals simp tendency as his strong female captain shows she's a butch progressive who won't submit to her husband. Yep -- like all modern women, she'll submit to her boss, but marry her and she'll treat you like a floor mat.

Decisions

To lead or not to lead? Often as in life we find ourselves at an impasse and leaving our brain to decide which way to go. There are two types of people, those that lead with their heart and those that lead with their future instincts. Which is right in the end , or which is better no one can but the owner.
Captain Geary is at his impasse am I Captain Black Jack , or not. Am I will to let people die or run for safety.
So many futures.
