Publisher's summary

Master mythologist Martin Shaw uses story to examine our broken relationship with the world!

Myth is our wild way of telling the truth, of sharing stories that have our living earth speaking through them. There is an old insistence that we each have a twin we know nothing about. A wild, curious twin that was thrown out the window the night we were born, taking much of our energy with them.

This story is a quest to find and court our wild twin, for they have something important to tell us. If there was something we were here to do in our few, brief years, we can be sure that the wild twin is holding the key.

In Courting the Wild Twin, Martin Shaw, an accomplished storyteller and scholar of myth and oral tradition, explores two ancient myths concerned with the wild twin and shares how vital they are to our ability to confront challenges with purpose, courage and creativity.

Myths are our secret weapon. They have a radical agency of beauty in our age of amnesia, an agency far beyond concept and polemic.

PURE MAGIC

Martin Shaw is a wizard. This is a beautifully written and narrated journey into other realms of seeing and being in the world. Pure magic.

If my deepest longing had a voice…

Gristle and marrow and rutting and taboo 🌹; gnarled initiatory spooks stirring appetite and desire; benevolent rulers slow strangling their realms with sanitized sweetness; reverence and irreverence and Wiley wisdom marbled throughout as Shaw walks with each story.

Listening to Shaw tell it, is sinking your teeth into the bloody animal meat of it all. It is becoming animal.

Now back to my packing…. I’m running away to the socked in unsown and salty edges of this modern day barren kingdom we’ve pretended is our home. This mama of twins in real life, is off in search of my own wild twin who’s been whispering my name….

Beautifully profound

This is a book to be returned back to again and again. It touches us deeply and deserves to be savored.

Magically Inspiring

This book sneaks up on you. It surprised me while on a long drive I spontaneously, and against my will, erupted into tears for a lost Twin I never new I had. It inspires a wild, magical, childlike, sacredness.

Master of story

Worth every moment, every penny. Provoking in all the right ways. Martin never disappoints. I can tell you I’ll be listening to this many more times and my children will also be invited to these stories when they’ve grown.

Interesting

Interesting format and content, but it dragged on a bit more than it needed to.

Wonderful Experience

I've read Courting the Wild Twin twice in the span of three months. Some how, some how, some how, I keep coming back to it. Martin Shaw is a wonderful writer, a grizzly narrator in the best sort of way, and a storyteller extrodanaire.

I wrestled with the desire to get this recording. I already have the book. But alas, listening is so very different than seeing. If you love story. If you are the wonderous sort. Nibble on this one.

Prepare for internal explosions

I've no idea how to write some words that would even hint at the experience of listening to this book. Beware the wild twin. She won't let you go back to your tidy life.....
