About this listen

Enchantment. By Dr. Sharon Blackie’s definition, a vivid sense of belongingness to a rich and many-layered world, a profound and whole-hearted participation in the adventure of life. Enchantment is a natural, spontaneous human tendency - one we possess as children, but lose, through social and cultural pressures, as we grow older. It is an attitude of mind which can be cultivated: the enchanted life is possible for anyone. It is intuitive, embraces wonder, and fully engages the mythic imagination - but it is also deeply embodied in ecology, grounded in place and community.

Taking as her starting point the inspiration and wisdom that can be derived from myth, fairytales, and folk culture, Dr. Sharon Blackie offers a set of practical and grounded tools for enchanting our lives and the places we live, so leading to a greater sense of meaning and of belonging to the world. To live this way is to be challenged, to be awakened, to be gripped and shaken to the core by the extraordinary which lies at the heart of the ordinary.

What a time for a golden anniversary. Celebrated annually since 1970, Earth Day commemorates its 50th year of existence as the world faces an unprecedented global crisis. While this particular Earth Day won't be filled with parades, communal beach cleanups, and school field trips to plant trees, fear not: when there's a will to honor the environment, there's a way. Inspire your inner environmentalist by listening to some of our favorite earth-loving audio.

This book threw open doors where my heart had already gone but my mind had not yet followed. This was life changing. I now validate the magical aspect of who I am, my love of anything Irish and of the wonderment of nature. I am especially sensitive to voices, tone and resonance, the narration is perfection.

Love this book, I've listened to it a few times now and it is full of so much good information and practices that we can implement. To top it off the narrator does a wonderful job as well. Can't recommend it enough!

If Women Rose Rooted is my favorite book and Sharon Blackie definitely did not disappoint with this one! It's definitely right up there as my favorite book. As the title suggests, the book pulls you in to a world of deeper enchantment. Yes, this book is enchanting in and of itself. I am going to be listening to this again and again.

In a society that increasingly tells you how to do things to fit in, this book asks you to go inward.

A missing piece I was searching for

Feeling enchanted by life was always part of my core experience but after the lockdowns (and many family tragedies) I found myself feeling numb and disconnected. I hear an inner voice say I needed to re-enchant myself. I searched for a book that could help with that and I found this one. I love it! I listen to it while I walk and I’ve the course of the few months I’ve been listening, I have found myself opening up again to that wonder. I am going to buy the physical book too and go through once more!

Helped me find re-enchantment post pandemic

This book is exactly what I needed! Thank you!

It helped me fall more deeply in love with the world, and gave voice to many topics that I resonate with (e.g. art, simple living, stories, parenting, gardening, place/home, calling, and building an environmentally sustainable future).

My favorite book of all time is the young adult novel Wise Child, by Monica Furlong.
It's about a young girl (nicknamed Wise Child) in Scotland who is sent to live with Juniper, a cunning woman on the fringes of the community. Fearful at first, the girl comes to love the compassionate and mysterious Juniper, who teaches her herbal medicine and nature-based magic. I have always been inspired by the way Juniper approaches life and the people she encounters, as well as her self-sufficient lifestyle.

I re-read Wise Child periodically, always finding new value, and The Enchanted Life invited me to explore my beloved story further, asking thoughtful questions about what elements I connected with and why.

I believe that Sharon Blackie would also love Wise Child, which likely has a lot to do with why I connected with The Enchanted Life!

My 2nd Favorite book!
