Editorial reviews

Fourth-grader Ellie James has always wanted a horse, and when she finally gets her own pinto, she gives it a fitting name: Dream. However, just as one dream comes true for Ellie, she finds herself faced with a new set of problems. Among them, her best friend Colt is behaving oddly, and Ellie can’t figure out why.

Performer Casey Holloway delivers a convincing portrayal of this horse-loving heroine, endowing her with warmhearted wonder and playful exuberance. Ellie confronts real problems with which children can relate: shifting friendships, overworked and absent parents, and a brother whose disability presents him with his own obstacles when it comes to making friends. Holloway’s upbeat, optimistic tone sends children a positive message about staying calm and persevering in difficult situations.
