About this listen

She came back for vacation. If she’s not careful, she might leave in a body bag…

Ivy League student Jessica James isn’t thrilled to be back home in Montana. But her boring summer break becomes a nightmare when her cousin dies at the local sawmill. Devastated by the death, she can’t help but draw connections between the supposed accident and her own father’s unsolved demise…

With the mill’s owner pushing hard to start fracking on Native American Blackfeet land, Jessica starts to connect the dots between the killings. And when two young girls go missing, Jessica calls in her posse to fight blood with brains.

Can Jessica expose the town’s dirty money, or will she too end up as sawdust?

Narrator was not right for this

The narrator of this book, maybe her direction was bad, but for such a serious story, the bubbly, silly voices were inappropriate. Also, southern accents an Montana accents are not the same. Liked the story though.

Narrator

The narrator is not that great. She pauses in the wrong places & mispronounces words. The book was good but hard to listen with her as the narrator.

Narrator is so hard to listen to

I really like the story. But WHY this narrator? The way she changes the sentence from how it should be read drives me crazY. AND the way she talks as Lolita! She sounds like a cartoon character.
I want to read the next book, but I see it’s read by the same person. Not sure I can stomach it.
The storylines in her books are really great, I can’t believe she has listened to them and approved the way they are narrated.

Love This Series

I just finished this audiobook and loved every second of it! Each character had their own voice and the narration just brought this book to life. I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series to see what happens next

Good story, but the narrator is not good.

The story is meaningful and good. The narrator's voice is winey and broken sentences, she spoiled the book.

Good story

Good story but unfortunately the narrator does a poor job narrating the different voices especially Lolita’s voice, it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard. I’d love to listen to the next book but I don’t think I could sit through that again.

Demonstrates tragic consequences

Shows how man's decisions can adversely affect a ative American nation.
The story had surprises and mystery.
Jessica should have given and felt like she was good enough for David Knoght a chance. Would have liked to see that they had a future.

A Disappointment

A lackluster story only made worse by a dreadful performance. The stunning ratings listed made me wonder just who read this book, and whether I'd stumbled into a narration and story intended for middle schoolers. Nevada Barr, this is not.

Good story, ridiculous narration for voices

I was looking forward to this light hearted continuation of the Jesse James series, however, even though the story is enjoyable the narrators choice of voice and inflection almost made getting through this book impossible. She makes Jesse sounds like a petulant 5 year old. Lolita sounds like a valley girl without a brain but with a bad ass temperament. Besides the voices, the narrator does a great job.. but those voices...

Bad!

The narrator in this book was terrible. It was hard to follow anyway, but the narration made it worse.
