About this listen

It began with an innocent-appearing package on her front porch.

The box contained a cell phone, which rang as soon as she opened the package. A voice that called Dr. Kathy Hoover by name said that her husband had been kidnapped. To get him back, she would have to poison one of her patients.

At first, she didn’t believe that her husband had been taken from the conference he was attending, but soon she discovered that the kidnappers really had Darren. If she wanted to see him again, she had to give medication that would murder Kelton Rush, former Vice-President. What was she to do? How would she handle this critical decision?

Dr. Richard Mabry is a retired physician, now writing “medical mysteries with heart.” In addition to his medical books, he is the author of one nonfiction book, six novellas, and 13 published novels. His novels have been finalists for the Carol Award, the Inspirational Reader’s Choice Award, the Reviewer’s Choice Award, the Selah Award, and others.

He and his wife live in north Texas. In addition to regular efforts (thus far unsuccessful) to improve his golf game, he spends much of his time trying to convince his family that sitting at his desk staring into space does indeed represent work.

Why not call the FBI?

I like heroes and value independence... but this is one of those books where the characters not reaching out for help makes me want to shout at them.

The premise is great. And there is plot. But the plot doesn’t twist as much as it tends to wander around.

Why tell you best friend who then says wow and leaves for Africa? If that part had a point at all, I missed it.

In any case, this book is engrossing, it just had a few too many eye roll enduring parts for me to rate it higher.

A Thrilling Thriller

I was given this free review copy audio-book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of Critical Decision by Richard Mabry and narrated by Bill Nevitt. Another book I wouldn’t have found if not for Bill Nevitt. This was a very good storyline that kept me interested throughout the book. I liked all the characters and thought that they were well developed with personalities that stayed consistent through the story. Bill’s narration was superlative and make the story come alive in my mind. I recommend this as an enjoyable thriller.

An entertaining mystery thriller

Have you ever felt the need to yell at the characters in a book or movie or tv show? Critical Decision is an entertaining story, but I was literally yelling “call the cops” and “go to the police” in several spots. I have to wonder how such smart people (a doctor and a professor) can make such stupid decisions. Other then that, it’s a good book, and I was clearly involved in the story. Religion does play into the story, but it us not overly preachy.

The narrator does a good job of bringing the story and characters to life.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Meh...

I listened to most of the book through Audible but then read the last parts. I will say, I liked reading it vs listening. For me, the narrator's tone didn't match the seriousness of the story. I found that reading the last part was much more enjoyable.

The story was ok. I think it was too fast paced with not a lot of details. I felt no connection to the people in the story. I thought it was going to be more thrilling I was left feeling disappointed.

Mind boggling attitude, kill off opposition!

This is one of those dramas that "would only happen in the movies".
However, our author and narrator brings this saga to life. The characters are believable, the plot is plausible, but there is still too many working parts involved.
There is always that question of why the victims don't get the authorities involved? Intriguing tale, that have you wondering what you would do.

Great Story Of ‘What If”

Superb narration brought the tension out in this story
Once again the author has given us an unusual opening, ‘What If ‘ how would a person react. A package with only her name, was her first step into this nightmare, and a cat and mouse game of who would live and who would die. They did not ask to join this game, they were an ordinary couple and the story shows the love they have for one another. Intriguing, page turner once again, the plot is superb, the characters well define. Their steps they took was well layed out for us to follow.
Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Great Read

Critical Decision was a good ready by Richard L. Mabry. Dr. Kathy Hoover found a box that contained a cell phone that rang once she opened it. The voice on the other end called her by her name and said her husband has been kidnapped. She must poison one of her patients in order to get him back. She didn't believe her husband was actually kidnapped but quickly found out that they were telling the truth. She needed to murder Kelton Rush, the former vice-president, if she wanted she him again. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Good action thriller

Dr. Kathy Hoover’s husband is kidnapped and is told that to get him back, she must murder one of her patients.

The story is told from the perspectives of the husband and wife, feeding you bits of information as the plot unravels. The tension and suspense was built up cleverly during the story and kept me on the edge of my seat while listening.

The narration was brilliant with variations in voices and tempo to keep the scenes intriguing and arouse the relevant emotions in the listener.

Note: This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this objective review voluntarily.

Great Medical Suspense Story

Critical Decision is another winner from Richard Mabry. Medical suspense is one of my favorite genres and this story did not disappoint. Several twists and turns to the plot, strong, likable and relatable characters, suspense, mystery--this one has it all and kept my attention right from chapter one throughout the book. I'm always on the look out for a new offering from this author and can't wait for the next story. Don't miss it. I listened to the audio version of the book and Bill Nevitt does a great job narrating this novella. I was given a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
