About this listen

Killer or target?

Dr. Kelly Irving knew her husband, attorney Jack Harbaugh, was acting strangely but figured they’d get through it. When she backed out of her garage that morning, she thought her car hit a bump. Instead, its progress was stopped by the body of a man her husband recently represented. Not only that, the dead man had been shot by her husband’s gun.

The police who investigated made it clear that Jack was a primary suspect. Kelly couldn’t decide if Jack was a murderer or marked as the next victim. As things continued to escalate, they were forced to put their marital differences aside and concentrate on keeping Jack alive while discovering who was behind the whole thing.

This was my first Richard L. Mabry's book. This short mystery suspense is great and intriguing, filled with unexpected twists and turns. Bill Nevitt did a great job with the narration. I like his voice. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.

Mystery Suspense

This book is a quick listen and reminded me of watching a police TV show. A young lawyer, Jack Harbaugh, and his wife. Dr. Kelly Irving, are caught up in a murder investigation after Jack takes on a new client. What he thinks is a simple drug charge turns into so much more and soon Jack and Kelly are running for their lives.

The book is entertaining, but nothing too unique or different. The characters could have been better developed and more interesting and I found Jack to be especially aloof. Not a bad book, just nothing too exciting. The writing reminded me more of a screenplay than a novella. But, I would probably read another book by Dr. Mabry.

The narrator, Bill Nevitt, does his usual excellent job and is the highlight of this book in my opinion. He always does a great job and keeps the listener's interest even if the book is a little lackluster. All in all, this is the type of book that would make a good beach read: entertaining enough to keep your interest without too much brain power being expended.

I was given the opportunity to listen to this book by the narrator and chose to review it.

Emergency Case

Emergency Case is an exciting story involving a lawyer who gets mixed up in a dangerous situation after a client tells him more than he should. The story keeps the reader (or listener) on their feet. It is a clean mystery with characters who are religious (but not in a way that is preachy or distracting from the storyline).

The narrator does a good job bringing the action of the story to life.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

An exciting story about a lawyer

This is an entertaining murder, mystery novella with ethical dilemmas, deception and suspense. What attorney Jack Harbaugh thought would be an easy, cut and dried case, turns into a life-threatening nightmare for him and his wife, Kelly. The narrator of the audiobook does a great job of creating tension and bringing the characters to life. I especially liked Kelly, she had strong convictions, determination and you could feel her emotions and her love for her husband. Gun running, murder, car crashes, intrigue and suspense will keep you enthralled for the length of this story.

Entertaining novella

An attorney takes a straight forward case, only to have his and his wife's life in grave danger.
A murder mystery, with a couple of twists.
I enjoyed the narrator's vocalizations characters, which adds the extra wham to an already great story.

A simple mistake leads to near death experience

Good story

Emergency Case, Is what I would call a cosy murder. No bad language, no violence, just an easy comfortable listen.
These stories would be perfect for television.
Bill Nevitt's narration is good and carries the story thru to end (all too soon) I enjoyed it that much I really didn't want it to end.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.
