About this listen

Trickery. War. Betrayal. Despite her resolve to cut ties with the rebellion, Sage Blackwell is forced to turn to her old allies....

But when the ultimate betrayal puts her in an impossible position, she has to make a life-changing decision: Freedom or peace?

From the moment he meets Sage, Crown Prince Tehl Ramses finds himself confronted with one surprise after another-and he hates being the fool. Ensnared in the rebellion's intricate web of trickery and blackmail, Tehl is forced to take desperate measures: War or compromise?

Both Tehl and Sage will do whatever's necessary to avoid the pending war, even if it means becoming reluctant allies. Tempers rise, myths are unveiled, and assassins abound. Can they put aside their prejudices to protect their people? Or will they tear Aermia and each other apart?

So good!

Love the story and characters. Excited to listen to the next book! I love sage and I am amazed at her grit to keep going even when everything is hard. Slow burn romance for sure.

Nothing happens in this book

Literally nothing happens in this book. It really annoyed me at what slow pace the love between the crown prince and sage develops. Yes you need the full book one to develop character, but this book can be skipped.

Below the short synopsis

If you want the short version:
- she gets discovered
- she negotiated a treaty between rebels and crown
- she gets tricked into becoming the wife of Tehl as a way to bond the rebellion to the crown
- they go from hating each other to respectfully disliking each other
- they get married
- the end

“Heroine” needs to mature

Though I enjoy the plot, the heroine leaves much to be desired. She’s not the strong “warrior” she claims to be, but a petty child that thinks her opinion is the only one that matters. Unfortunately because of this I’m ending here on book two. I can’t stomach anymore of Sage’s pettiness or self righteousness, it has become too tedious.

It’s just ok

This is my second time trying to get through this book. I feel like the plot has so much potential, where it falls so short is the main character. Sage is supposed to be this self assured warrior woman with awe inspiring skill, sees herself this way but does not act the part. When the world treats her as a warrior she becomes agitated and responds as though they should be treating her as a delicate female true to feminine stereotypes. Conversely, if they treat her as a “weaker sex” she gets agitated as well wanting the consideration of a warrior. Along the same lines is her annoying habit to form false assumptions and spend her time man hating. This is not a “I am woman hear me roar” book, it’s a “I am woman do what you will because I can’t decide if I’m strong or weak” story. I’m trying to get through it this time since I can see what’s building, just not sure I can stand much more of the obvious man hating and overwhelming character anxiety.
