About this listen

"A bite or scratch will turn the victims to one of the infected within 72 hours..."

Those words rang in Evan Berry's head. Waking to discover he'd been scratched was a death sentence. Deciding that he would not force Carl or Betty to have to put him down after he turned, Evan said farewell to his group and slipped out in the middle of the night.

Deciding that he would make one last run in the hopes that he could bring back enough supplies for his beloved Newfoundland, Chewie, Evan embarks on a quest that will show him just how fast and far society has fallen. Will he make it before he turns, or will he perish...alone?

Great zombie story!

Thoroughly enjoyed this one by a fairly new to me author! The characters are complex and interesting and the storyline is compelling. I thought the author narrating his own book was a neat twist and he did a excellent job!

The world has gone to hell . It's a fight just to live. Zombies and crazed people killing just to kill. This is an awesome story. I like how the narrator keeps me listening. I can't wait for the next book

more interesting & elaborate than the first volume

Volume two picks up right where volume one leaves off.  Evan, now convinced he is infected, leaves his companions to do one or two last good deeds for his dog and friends.  His adventures continue to lead him astray as he meets new survivors, some friendly, some horribly evil.   He is forced to face his own nature as he has to fight the living, perhaps descending into a murderer in the process.

We see much more of the evolving world as Evan fights for his diminishing life.  White supremacists and other groups are starting to divide up the crumbling landscape into fiefdoms.  He desperately tries to remain true to his morals as he watches his own humanity slip away.

The zombie apocalypse, though still recent, is more deeply revealed in this second installment.  Evan holds onto his last grasp of his past as he wants to do just one more good deed for his dog.  This fixation makes him relatable, even though it puts him in extreme and continual danger.  He’s lasted longer than any other infected person and he’s planned his short future on this one questionable fact.

The story is more interesting and elaborate than the first volume.  And if you’ve enjoyed the first installment, you will very likely like this one even more.

Once again, TW Brown performs his own novel.  The listener is used to his voice and flaws by this point and just goes with it.  Here is a recap from a review of the narrator from the first novel:  Brown’s voice is pleasant enough, sometimes stumbling over phrases and not always differentiating the characters well.  His female and male characters sometimes morph into each other.  On the other hand, he lends a personal tone to the story.  No one knows a story better than the author and the listener gets just a little more depth from certain characters for it.  It is a personal taste and one can’t really say if his reading is a positive or negative, adding in some ways and detracting in others.

Dead Alone is better than the first book, both in depth and detail.  It is basically a retake on the many zombie stories.  But by book two you are invested in the characters and want to see how Evan and his friends get out of impossible situations.  You’ve read book one, keep going for more gruesome zombie fun.  You’ll likely want to listen to the sequel(s) too.

Evan, Evan, Evan....

Would you consider the audio edition of DEAD: Alone to be better than the print version?

I don't know, i haven't read the print version, but I do love the audio versions.

What was one of the most memorable moments of DEAD: Alone?

It would have to be when Evan was getting checked out after the roof incident and the doctor guy offered to help him get all evened/balanced.... lol!!!! i about spit my drink out when i heard that.

What does TW Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He puts emphasizes on the correct places. There is nobody better to read a book thank the author and TW Brown does this amazingly! he knows exactly how he pictured it in his head and when he reads it he can lead us through his vision instead of just a normal narrator that can only lead you through someone elses vision.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had a lot of extreme reactions to this book. I laughed, almost cried, i had moments of disbelief with some of Evans choices and thought i would have chosen "better" but then again, in the specific situations i may not...

Any additional comments?

Loved it, loved it, loved it! can't wait to find out what happens next to Evan and to see what happens with his return "home"

Another excellent book from TW Brown

Highly recommend, for those who’ve already read TW Brown’s first series! Note: this series does seem to be a little more tame than his previous books. But still a great read overalll!

I'm in love with this author!!

Best zombie series in my opinion, I love how I get transformed into each book with Brown. The characters each personality relates to each other perfectly. Brown your next best book should take place in my home town, Palmer, Alaska. Keep on the great writing and thank you. NellyGirl

TW Brown rocks the zombie genre again.

The storyline was awesome, I love it when the author narrates their books. They bring the characters to life better than any paid narrator. I definitely recommend this series.
