About this listen

The world of the Dead has come to your doorstep.

TW Brown's best-selling series is now unfolding around the world in cities and one-stoplight towns alike. The first stop is his very own Portland, Oregon.

Meet Ken Simpson, a retired police officer; Rose Tinnes, a newly divorced woman trying to get her life back in order; and Jason Edwards, a man recently paroled and looking forward to his freedom. These three people form the nucleus of an unlikely group who will struggle to survive as their city falls to the undead.

As the city of Portland, Oregon, spirals into hellish chaos, it is not just the walking dead that prove to be a problem. In a world suddenly stripped of any order, it might be the living that pose the greatest threat.

as a local portlander, this was spot on.

What made the experience of listening to Dead: Snapshot: Portland, Oregon the most enjoyable?

My and the authors home town being ravaged by the undead hordes was a very fun read. I have thought it through many times and it was so refreshing to hear an amazing writers perspective on the same subject. You get to agree or disagree with decisions the characters make on a whole different level and ride out the consequences.

What other book might you compare Dead: Snapshot: Portland, Oregon to and why?

Its a tough book to place. It is a stand alone novel , however it does nod to his dead series in ways that make Dead completely worth reading before reading the snapshot books. So as a stand alone novel its a yummy book one in a zombie series. With the dead books having been read, its a yummy book one with lots of inside references to your most beloved characters you can not get enough of.

Which character – as performed by TW Brown – was your favorite?

You can tell thees characters are his brain children, he takes great time and effort with each one. Juanita ,aaron and jason were excellent.

Any additional comments?

His attention down to the last detail without dragging out a single sentence is such a pleasure to read.

Great Story But .......

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Mr. Brown - you are an amazing writer ! However .... please don't read your own stuff any more! If this book had been by anyone else but you, I would have returned it because I just thought the audible was - well - terrible. That being said - the story was great - the writing was just what you would expect from this great writer.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of TW Brown?

Mark Gagliardi

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no

Good author, good story

I've been a fan of TW Brown's zombie books for a long time, particularly his Dead series which precede his Snapshot books. He excels at creating real and believable characters and at telling a story through the eyes of very divergent people. Not all of these people are noble or even likable but you believe them and can even see their point of view, even if you don't agree with it.

This is my first time with an audio book. It was interesting to hear the author reading it and I thought that overall he did a good job as the reader. The one thing that kind of grated on me was when he read the female characters' lines. I appreciated that he was trying to give them their own, more feminine voice but the way he did their voices made them sound kind of insipid. Now I've read the written Kindle form of this story and these characters are definitely NOT that way. Their words and their actions are great (In fact, one of the things I really like about him is that he writes good female characters) but the whole vocal tone just doesn't match.

Anyway, I would highly recommend TW Brown if you like well-written zombie stories. His books are full of interesting characters with dimension to them and the stories are full of surprises. Personally, I prefer reading them to listening but your mileage may vary. Still, whichever version fits your taste and style best, I encourage you to give him a try. I hated to see the Dead series end but the Snapshot books seem to operate in the same universe, just with different characters in different places.

OK But Not Great

Not a typical fast paced book - and if you're looking for a lot of good action this isn't it. A few good scenes but mostly about a group of misfits coming together to survive. I'm not sure that they actually relate together as they really don't seem concerned about getting to know each other. Retired cop meets ex-con and they hate each other but the story is really told from the ex-con point of view. Character development didn't seem to be a priority. Story really trudges along with them staying put on the farm and making a few interesting "runs" into town for supplies.
One chapter there is just a couple of people banding together and the next chapter there is a whole town that they have made out of RVs - I wondered where they got the gas but I must have missed that whole part. You can't tell me that went smoothly?
End of book is about them attacking another group to take their food, killing most of them on purpose or giving them a chance to join them or surrender.
Don't know that I would use a credit for next book.

Portland Watch Out!!

What did you love best about Dead: Snapshot: Portland, Oregon?

I loved best that it followed real people and didn't go overboard on the machine guns and such.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead: Snapshot: Portland, Oregon?

How Jason really changed his life around just in time for the zombie's to start and how long that rose city had been around with the reason of their gathering at the end of the book

What does TW Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

No i haven't, but i really liked his narration of the book. He brought the way he heard it as he was writing it instead of just what the narrator thought the author meant it to sound at any particular moment.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Portland Watch out!! Rest of the country, take heed

Any additional comments?

Can't wait in Rio Vista.

Would you consider the audio edition of Dead: Snapshot: Portland, Oregon to be better than the print version?

I was a little sad when the story ended, and I do mean ended but I see how this plays out so I plan on sending him information about my hometown hopefully I'll soon read about my city being over run by the undead, who knows I might even be a heroine in the book.

What did you like best about this story?

The way you feel like your walking along side the people in the book.

What about TW Brown’s performance did you like?

I liked all of his performances, I look forward to hearing him again though I know that might not be possible since he will be writing the next INSTALLMENT!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No I was caught from the very beginning.

Any additional comments?

A fine addition to the Dead series

What did you like best about this story?

The flavor of this book tastes like the Dead series, and I can't get enough...

Any additional comments?

Let me start by saying that I have read and listened to the entire Dead series. I'm also a huge fan of the author. On top of that, I consider him my friend. All of that being said, I won't pull any punches or beat around the bush. I LOVED IT. Being an author and a narrator is a hard gig. Trust me, I know. Considering that this is his first attempt at this whole audio book thing, this was great! He ain't Jim Dale, but he ain't half bad. The audio quality is consistent, his tonal quality is good, his voices are decent... He did well. The story rocks. TW Browns stories always rock. His inclusion of the dog just made me smile. No spoilers here!!! Listen/read it for yourself. It's dark in all the right places, with a gooey creamy middle (that comment is not based on facts, but I've always wanted to say it).Five stars, sir. And please, can I have another?
