Dark Alpha’s Lover is a brand new paranormal romance in her Reapers series featuring a brotherhood of elite assassins from New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant.
There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I am coming for you...
I answer to no one but Death. I am impenetrable, impervious, immortal. I exist to do Death's bidding and no one—not Reaper nor human nor Fae—can stand in my way. Except for the bewitching half-Fae, Catriona. She swears the magic in her family passed her by, but I know better. This woman is strong. This woman is powerful. And when her abilities surge forth, no one will be able to stop the Dark Fae from coming for her. Except for me. I want to keep her close. I want to keep her safe. I want lose myself to her, again and again...

Cat has lost her siblings thanks to Bran. He wants her for something, but what? Whatever it is, he wants it badly and will restore to terrible threats to get it. Too bad for him that Cat is the smart one. She figures somethings out and she won't let him foul her.
Bran isn't her only problem. Fintan is watching over her. The man has no emotions, no compassion. When his walls start to crack he disappears. How can one rely on someone like that? How do you love someone that doesn't want your love? Their romance is overflowing with tension.
A great read but an even better listen.

The Reapers

Catriona is a halfling that knows who and what she is… the last living descendant of family that has been visited by the Fae three times. Finton is an unusual Dark Fae Reaper, he has white hair and red rimmed white eyes… he is trying to ensnare Bran by the powerless Cat as bait. Not only does she have power, but the bait becomes the one who ensnares him.
As with all Donna Grant books in the Dark World series once you get in… it is hard to get out.

This was much better than the last Reapers book. I really liked Fintan and Cat. Fintan had closed off ANY kind of feelings over thousands of years and Cat taught him to feel again. And Cat thought she didn’t have any magic, which she had a lot of. I’m still getting tired of Bran, though. I mean, really, he has to get away in every book? That makes the Reapers look a little worthless, IMO. They all keep trying to kill him by stabbing him. Why doesn’t someone just cut his head off? Time to put an end to him and find a new storyline.
And it’s time to find a male narrator OR stop bringing the Dragon Kings into the Reaper books, too. Or, maybe it’s time for me to stop buying the Reaper audibles. The Reapers were all males when the series started so why was a woman chosen as a narrator? Doesn’t make a bit of sense. A DRAGON that sounds womanly is horrible.
The overall story was wonderful but the narrator and Bran have to go. Again, IMO. I absolutely love the Reapers but this story is getting old. Ya', gotta change it up now and then or you lose readers.
There is explicit sex in this story, as usual, and the F-bomb was used 2 times.
As to the narration: Victoria McGloven simply cannot narrate. Since 2012 she’s narrated 8 books so that should tell you something. She never, ever laughs when the book calls for it and she only whispers occasionally. She does woman’s voices great but that’s not who she should be doing better at. The men’s voices are still terrible. Isn’t Victoria McGloven reading reviews of other female narrators, to see what people are saying about them? There are some fantastic female readers and it would behoove Ms. McGloven to listen to some of them. Katherine Kellgren, Tanya Eby, Sophie Eastlake, Mary Jane Wells, Ashford McNab, to name a few.
Great book but terrible narration..
