About this listen

Luke Jeffers is a student at Brafferton Community College in Fort Christanna, Virginia. Like any other college guy, he dreams about Amy, his grade-school crush, and finds time to party on the weekends while struggling to make his meager budget pay his bills. But unlike anyone else, Luke has discovered the secret Department of Defense Application for Remote Kinetics that unlocks a whirlwind of shocking events, and changes Luke's life direction forever.

While working as an intern at a Computer Information Systems research facility, Luke secretly downloads games from the main server onto his smart phone. Unbeknownst to him, Dark Application is also installed on his phone. And once Dark Application is installed on a phone, it can never be removed. Suddenly Luke's life takes on utterly unpredicted changes; he passes his first Chemistry exam, he mysteriously acquires a large sum of money, and he finally gets the girl of his dreams go out with him on Valentine's Day. Slowly the application sucks him in, and he becomes addicted and unable to put it down.

Lurking just around the corner are horrific secrets that land Luke in a world of hurt, and he becomes entangled in a web of murder, lies, and criminal activities that shock the town and lead to his ultimate destruction. Dark Application: One, is the technological thriller of the iPhone era and a fast-paced, quick listen, that will lead into the next book of The Dark Application Series.

Careful What You Download!

Dark Application: ONE, by Brian Krogstad and Lindsey Waterman, is a horror/science fiction/psychological thriller novel. The main character is Luke Jeffers a college student at the fictional Brafferton Community College in Christanna, Virginia. Luke has an internship at a Computer Information Systems research facility. Luke secretly downloads games from the main server onto his smartphone and he also loads unwittingly loads Dark Application on his phone. Once Dark Application is installed on a phone you are stuck with it. Even pulling the battery out will on help.

This is how Luke’s life forever changes. Along with the effects of the changes to Luke, it brings to his roommates Amit and Chris. They go from being unknown guys on campus to the guys with the party place. Luke’s childhood crush Amy is finally within his reach. She has always been with the bad boy jocks and jerks. All that will change with the Dark App. The App punishes those who stand in Luke’s way to his goals. Even when he gets what he wants it comes with a price. And the Dark app changes him.

The Story was really good at holding the listener’s attention. From the way, the story starts 5 months into the future then jump cuts to the beginning is one of my favorite ways to build interest in a story. The whole concept of a Dark App for a phone in our phone obsessed society just really made this one of those audiobooks that I was really into hearing with rapt attention. It is a generational thing. I am an old guy at 48 phone is a tool nothing more. While listening to the story the characters viewed and used the phone as another character in the story.

Narration was done by Matt Weight this is the first time I have heard an audio performance from the narrator but I highly enjoyed the performance each character had a unique voice and the tension built between Luke and Amy was really great as Luke was going off the rails the more he used the Dark App and the narrator was awesome with building that tension. The production value was good on this audiobook from the Publisher Brian Krogstad.
