Publisher's summary

A chilling ritual is being acted out by a sadistic killer – with a missing child at its centre. Dark Flight is the fourth novel in Lin Anderson's forensic crime series featuring Rhona MacLeod.

'One of the most satisfying characters in modern crime fiction' –
Daily Mail

Six-year-old Stephen Devlin has vanished, his mother and grandmother horrifically murdered. At the scene of the devastating crime, forensic scientist Rhona Macleod finds a chilling African talisman, made from the bones of a child.

Working with DS Michael McNab, Rhona joins a task force that has been formed in a desperate attempt to track down the missing child before it’s too late. As the case builds momentum, it becomes clear the killer’s motive was linked to the fact that the boy and his mother had recently returned from Nigeria.

When further victims are found, Rhona realizes she must decipher the talisman’s meaning if they are to have any hope of finding Stephen before he becomes the next link in the killer’s chain . . .

Very good.

This is my favorite of the four books so far. Interesting-though gruesome- plot and the usual characters are getting more developed. I still worry about Rhona and Sean.

The narration of the audiobook is first rate. I’m sorry the next few books in the series are not available in that format yet.

I am making my way thru this series

And enjoying it very much. I feel involved with the characters, who actually have personalities. These books have more romantic relationships than I am used to reading about. I generally avoid such books thinking they will be sappy. So many books in this genre are stereotypical hard boiled detectives or men with wives who are deep in the background--written by authors only comfortable writing about male-male relationships. But Lin Anderson brings off female-male relationships that seem fairly real for the characters' time of life. I actually like the protagonist and like her lab friend Chrissie even more. In this series, the author doesn't just write the same book over and over with small changes. (At least so far). And so far she hasn't written a book that is just pathetic in order to meet a deadline, as I have seen before.. Her stories are interesting and rarely does my mind drift away while listening.
