Impostor, is the first instalment in Ross's brand new Dr Alex Gregory series, narrated by actor Hugh Dancy.
After an elite criminal profiling unit is shut down amid a storm of scandal and mismanagement, only one person emerges unscathed. Forensic psychiatrist, Doctor Alexander Gregory, has a reputation for being able to step inside the darkest minds to uncover whatever secrets lie hidden there and, soon enough, he finds himself drawn into the murky world of murder investigation. In the beautiful hills of County Mayo, Ireland, a killer is on the loose. Panic has a stranglehold on its rural community, and the Garda are running out of time. Gregory has sworn to follow a quiet life but, when the call comes, can he refuse to help their desperate search for justice?
Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Irish landscape.

This story is intense and vivid in imagery. As with the DCI Ryan series, she’s done another exemplary level of research, but of more significance for me, Louise has again translated her research into this story in a way that moves the story at a pace with only one negative outcome—I can’t put it down and it’s ending too soon, which now it has.
This book is unlike her DCI Ryan stories, an amazing feat, because the Ryan catalog is, on its own, so worth reading. And yet, one of the benefits of Ross’s Alex Gregory series is that it differs significantly in style from Ryan. Nothing lighthearted about Gregory, which has led me to add riveting to my Ross lexicon.
Thank you LJ Louise Ross. Looking forward to new releases in December.

LJ Ross and his DCI Ryan series are some of my most favorite but Imposter is even better.
I can’t say anything negative about this book and I can’t wait for book #2 in this new series!
LJ Ross does it again!

The locale of County Mayo, Ireland is a departure from Ross’s previous books and it works well. Alex is invited over to help profile a killer in a small town. There are many suspects, several alibis, and a bunch of red herrings. It took quite a while for me to figure out who the killer was. In fact, it came as a big surprise. That’s a good book, in my opinion. And the epilogue made me exclaim out loud.
The narration was first rate. Very well done.
I am looking forward to more in this series, as long as Ryan comes back, too.
Great beginning to a new series
