About this listen

Would you risk it all the save your family?

Living in New Zealand, Jack Gee thought he was safe. The beautiful, isolated country had always provided a sense of security. When a virus begins to spread across the globe, he is on a hiking trip in the mountains, blissfully unaware. A desperate message from his wife Dee alerts him to the viral threat that turns humans into apex predators with one purpose - to kill.

The country collapses as Jack races to get home, and when he finally does make it out of the mountains he finds his peaceful life has been shattered. Banding with other survivors, they all must quickly learn how to survive in this new world.

In the fight to stay alive, friendship and family will be tested and new alliances formed. But dangerous new enemies emerge in the war for the future of the country, and the world.

Great story!

It is a really great book with a lot of good movie references that lightened the mood in intense situations. Definitely worth the read and worth looking into other books by this author!

Loved it!

Only one criticism: the end came to fast and no details about the virus. Part of the book focuses on scientists and it being man made but nothing at all was mentioned.

Good book

Only thing I caught that was wrong was how she learned about collaborators. Soldier never explained. Other than that simple but good! Worth the listen or read

East of Down Under

I liked the different version of zombie, aka Variant, although I was strained to understand the bee/antlikr, apparent socialistic group existence. This approach makes an argument for logical thought and forward thinking that is impossible to imagine.in this world that has come to be. Also, I have often wondered about a cure, any cure. Does it cure the patient of the virus/disease, or is it more of a vaccine that must be in the system for prepping the body to resist he virus, or does it save the body AND reverse the physical effects of the affliction? Or does it end the progress of the virus by killing the host and stopping the spread of the virus to another host?
Some of the NZ expressions were obvious and easy and took no translation, BUT a couple made you think because the expression, sometimes due to the audible version prevents the mental/visual cognitive association that comes with actually seeing the word in print. The last occurrence was when the Dee's found the note, or "tic,", on the front door. Tic? I am sure had I been reading this it would have been obvious the term was short for "ticket". However, in my head I had, for a sec,, seen a blood engorged insect! Which in context didn't seen completely unreasonable! Anyway, the series was both surprising and enjoyable, thank you.

Series was pretty good

I really got into this story until book 3, story kinda went out of range with the insect stuff. However, I would listen to more of the characters, if he had continued with the storyline

Loved it from start to finish

Loved this addition to the universe. And the fact that the Mac are not trained soilder a but Warriors non the less and made it happen for the team. Loved the pacing and action. Would have loved it if we got a little more about the main vilian and X the developments made but it was great
