Bob @ Platypire Reviews

*I received a comp code for this audio book for an honest review*

Not a dull moment! This book is different in that it doesn't start right before a zombie outbreak, not during, and not immediately. It's further down the road, but while things are still being experimented with and such. There's a lot of politics and money behind the scenes. The only thing I might warn about is the harsh language and crude humor shown by some characters, which honestly made them feel more realistic.

Side note:Did anyone else picture The Smoking Man when Mr. Black was on scene the first couple of times?!

I wasn't sure about the narrator at first, being a bit different from what I've gotten used to, but I warmed up to him quickly. He did voices, accents, and he seemed to actually know the story. I've heard several that it seemed like that it was the reader's first time looking at the book, and that always puts me off. Big points for that not happening here!

Overall: If you like zombies and military action, don't mind blood and guts or an f bomb here and there, I would definitely recommend this!

Fantastic!

This is a thrilling, very fast-paced story that has no problem being very graphic and technical. Be prepared for massive carnage (it is a zombie novel after all) and know that no character is guaranteed to make it to the end. There are some fun twists and an extremely satisfying ending, not an annoying cliffhanger. I'm curious to see where the next installment takes this series.

Only someone with a big di... imagination could come up with the chapter headings. They're hilarious and perfect. Gamboa is definitely on my favorite author list now.

Fun breath of fresh air for zombie genre

I got plenty of laughs from Dead Island: Operation Zulu. Author Allen Gamboa displays a shining talent for writing characters so lifelike they could be standing right beside me, carrying on a conversation. The story begins with a group of Aussie and American ex-military hired to travel to an island for what they believe will be a simple rescue mission for survivors and retrieval of a new zombie virus antitode. Unbeknownst to the group, a crew of Russian ex-military unfriendlies had already reached the island with the same MO. The two crews battle the undead and one another, each group trying to escape the island alive with the scientist and his antidote. Who hired these crews, and why? A blindsiding twist tops off this humor-filled zombie/military/action novel that I'm so glad I took a chance on.

Overall, a really fun read! Top-notch narration by S. W. Salzman elevated Gamboa's realistic characters to even greater heights. Even if you're at saturation with all-things-zombie, do check this one out, as it's a much-needed fresh breath for the genre.

I was provided a free copy of this audiobook by the narrator in exchange for my unbiased review. Many thanks to the narrator for this opportunity!

Zombie story

This was a zombie story that takes place years after the outbreak. The story ebs and flows. I did honestly enjoy the ending both in how the story ends and that it actually wrapped up. I received this audiobook for free for an honest review.

Dead Island

Any additional comments?

Decent story. If you want a story that you don't need to pay constant attention to, this one is for you. Nice performance by the narrator although his female voices need a little work. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.
