About this listen

Some secrets are worth killing for.

When DCI Duncan Bone is contacted by a terminally ill psychiatric patient and given clues linking a 40-year-old unsolved murder to high-profile public figures, he finds himself locked into a conspiracy at the very heart of the Scottish criminal and political establishment.

With his bosses stonewalling the investigation, lives under threat, and his career on the line, Bone faces a race against time to hunt down a group of men who will stop at nothing to cover their murderous crime.

Can DCI Bone catch the killer before the killing starts again?

Set among the dramatic hills and glens of Scotland's Campsie Fells, Dead Man's Stone is the third in a series of edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers that will keep you guessing right up to the nail-biting, heart-stopping climax. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, J. D. Kirk, Val McDermid, and Stuart MacBride.

A puzzling good mystery- not a lot of in the office stuff just quiet action that
moves the story along quickly.
It is good enough
that I listened to this
about a year ago and again today- perfect for a cold rainy day read.

Good crime procedural

This story of several related murders takes us through what it takes to investigate crimes in Scotland with very interesting characters

Low key in entertainment

Great narration, good characters, and a decent storyline. Maybe not Reid’s best but still Good low key listening.

A true Gem

In my reviews, I haven’t mentioned prior to this book how Mullins character has me in stitches. I did truly enjoy this book, I love the narrator and can’t wait to listen to the next in its series. I like getting to know some Scots slang…buggeration, Ha! Anyway, a great listen and the plot thickens-
bum, bum, bum…

Fascinating plot and well-developed characters

When I read one of Mr. Reid's captivating police novels, I go for the Audible versions because Steve Worsley's narrative are perfect. His accent sets the stage for a well-paced Scottish murder and some interesting local color and scenery. The police squad in the book are all believable and varied individuals and their back-stories just keep getting better. I especially love Mark, the big, lumbering DS who gets all the crap jobs and eats everything in sight. DCI Bone is a damaged detective with serious PTSD. He even gets visits from an apparition from the past crime that forever scars him The book includes family dramas and team interactions, office politics, and media interference but the murder mystery is a fascinating cold case set in an abandoned POW camp from WWII. As always, there are many viable suspects and in this book they are suddenly dropping like flies after all these years. And they don't die nicely. The book comes to a good conclusion. I can't wait for the next book to come out in Audible!

Wow!!!

Wow!!! I really enjoyed books 1 and 2, and I was looking forward to book 3. This one certainly didn't disappoint. I would say that I liked it even better than books 1 and 2, but I can't put my finger on exactly why. It was just so satisfying as a story with all the twists and turns and with how it wrapped up. As with the others, there's the perfect balance between little bits of sub-character side stories and action-packed suspense. I want more DCI Bone stories. I very much hope that it becomes a long series.

Perfect narrator for the book

Sorry by I love these audios

So Bone is finally back to full health and back
To work this time on an historic case of quite a dark and nasty murder of a young boy presumed to have run away at the time of his difference. This is a more of the usual Bone falling out with his boss but he’s finally turning his life around and things are looking up and he’s determined to bring someone to justice for this crime before it’s too late. Roll on book 4 and a big shout out to Steve Worsley who’s narration I love.

Eh

Again this book was too short to make the characters interesting. Same as the others in the series. Great narration but I won’t buy another abridged installment.

A good story

Steve Worsley does a good job at narration though the “he said” “she said” bits get receptive and annoying. I enjoyed the story and it’s good to see the characters developing.
