About this listen
Since Bran Tanda started working at the morgue, his life has changed. He’s spent most of his life denying his necromancer abilities, but now he knows there’s no other choice but to embrace it and learn as much as he can about it. No matter how much he hates it.
Jordan Amid is becoming more comfortable being around the dead. But they still overwhelm him and terrify him. The coldness and the heavy emotions he associates with being near a spirit are nearly too much for him to take. But for Bran, he’ll try.
Bran and Jordan soon realize there is more going on than they understand, and even Janis isn’t sure how to handle what she knows is coming for them. Mysterious markings continue to appear and unless they can learn more from the journals Bran finds at his house, there may be no hope for anyone.

Story
When ghostwriter Maz Amani inherits a house from an uncle he’s never heard of, he offers heartfelt thanks to the universe, packs up his car, his cat, and his skepticism about mysterious uncles leaving all their worldly goods to unknown nephews, and high-tails it to a small town halfway to the Oregon coast. Anything would be better than week after week of couch surfing his way around Portland. Even if the alleged house is a rundown shack ridden with termites, spiders, and—shudder—rats, he’ll deal. Because hey, he owns a house!

Lucas used to be a normal person. Was it really so bad that he had a job he didn't like, and he still lived with his parents? At least he didn't have balls of light shooting out of him. Oh wait. Yes, he does. And he's not sure why it's happening or what to do about it. But it gets worse. Way worse and deadlier than Lucas had ever thought possible. Running for his life, he ends up in a small town named Saint Lakes and right into the arms of a dragon shifter who claims to be his fated mate.

This is what Brad gets for finally "sinking his teeth into a book," like his nerdy brother is always hounding him to. He definitely wasn't expecting the book to sink its teeth into him. With the newfound knowledge that he can get pregnant as an omega, Brad's urgency to get back to his world of touchdowns and keg stands is intensifying by the minute. Unfortunately, so is his attraction to Raul, the possessive alpha shifter who broods mysteriously and smells like sandalwood and something uniquely masculine.

Ash is technically a fire mage, but he can't do much. Turning his bedroom lights on and off without having to get out of bed isn't exactly awe inspiring, not when anyone with the right gadget could clap and do the same thing. Worse, sometimes he senses something bigger and brighter lurking under his skin, and it feels so familiar he knows it has to be his magic, but then he burps or sneezes, and the feeling passes. So it's probably just allergies . . . or gas. Yeah . . . Not exactly brimming with magical oomph. Not anymore. It sucks.

Is it wrong that I watch him? Leif Anderson seems like a friendly, kind, normal, boy-next-door type. Unlike me. His stalker, a creep who moved into the place next to his parents’ house to keep an eye on him. I’m not the bad guy, though. I’m the one who will protect him. The cops don’t believe he’s in danger. Maybe they’re right, and this is all in my messed-up head. I’ve been wrong before. And no matter how I justify this to myself, my motives aren’t entirely pure.

Bran and Jordan
This is book 1 of the Spirit Boys Series. Bran and Jordan have unique abilities. One is an empath, and the other a necromancer. This makes things interesting as they navigate through intrigue and romance. Overall the story was interesting. I found the voices in narration to be irritating and detracted from the enjoyment of the book. I plan to read the actual book, instead of the narrated, before moving to the next in the series.

Ghosts!
First book in the Spirit Boys series. Both of the main characters work in a morgue and are affected by ghosts. Bran as a necromancer and Jordan can feel a ghosts pain. This book lays the groundwork for the series and is interconnected with the Valley Ghosts and the Mystical Markings series. I enjoyed listening to the book and am always up for more!!

Good
This was a good story. I really liked the premise of a necromancer (Brad) and an empath (Jordan) working together at a morgue and solving a paranormal mystery that could otherwise have serious consequences. I, of course, know a little of empaths, but one who can feel all the emotions of the dead fascinated me. I thought the two of them made a cute match, a great team, and balanced each other well.
I listened to this narrated by Allen Jeffries. He does a good job creating different and distinct voices for all the characters and does put good energy into it. But it feels.. hmm. Dramatic in a way. Almost how I used to hear characters talk on kid-oriented TV shows and dubbed anime two decades ago. Not bad if you like that sort of thing, but I didn't care for it myself. Speeding it up a little kind of toned it down a bit and helped.

Wonderful story.
I love the connection Bran and Jordan have with each other and the fact that they both have a pull to the other side. They are stronger together and help free trapped spirits and love every second of it. I recommend this book to everyone who loves mm romance stories with some necromancy in it.

loved it
Dead Things is the first book in Spirit Boys Series. This series is part of an interconnected world so you may want to start with Valley Ghosts series then the Mystical Markings series then the novella Just Another Day at The Morgue where we are introduced to the main characters of this series and then the free short story The Cemetery Tour. This book is about Bran who has necromancer abilities and Jordan who can feel what ghosts feel. I love the world building and story telling telling BL Maxwell invites us to enjoy. I also love that the characters are in the city I live in, Sacramento California, as it makes it fun to pick out areas I am familiar with. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I really enjoyed watching these two guys become closer. If you get the audio narration, Allen Jeffries does a wonderful job of narrating this series. He makes the change in characters seamlessly. I can't wait to listen to the next book. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Loved it
I loved this book. Allen Jeffries' voice really brings this story to life. Bran Tanda has necromancer abilities that has denied most of his life. Jordan Amid is a empath and can feel the emotions of the dead. They both work in the morgue together. Along with their friend Janis they must use their gifts to overcome the evil that could destroy everything.

Will Bran ever get away from his evil mother?
This is a new series by BL Maxwell, called Spirit Boys. This series appears to be a bit of a spin-off of the Mystical Markings series. I enjoyed seeing all the guys again.
This narrator, Allen Jeffries, always takes a little bit of getting used to, with his OTT narration. Once you get into the story you get used to his style and after the first few chapters I don't even notice it anymore.
My thoughts are, before reading this series I would definitely recommend reading the first two books in the Mystical Markings series first. These three books flow into each other along with the characters. Yes, you could probably read this series without the other one first but, I don't know, why would you? The same guys appear in both series along with the same narrator narrating the story. It just makes sense to me to read them in the release order for full enjoyment.
Buddy is back, mommy dearest is still after Bran and all the power, new powers are unveiled, relationships grow, this is all around a fun listen

More Trouble Ahead
Bran and Jordan are back and trouble hasn't stopped for them. This start of their series is a good continuation of their short story introduction. I can't wait for book 2. I enjoyed the audiobook for this one just as much as reading it. The narration by Allen Jeffries was great for this.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
